In Brief: May 8

East, Kohl hall closures slated for electric power shutdown

As the East Campus and Centrex Electrical Load Conversion Project gets underway, electrical power to Kohl Hall and East Hall will be shut down the weekend of May 13 and 14. The buildings will be closed during the shutdown and no one may enter other than the contractors.

Most affected will be East Hall. Power will be off from 6 a.m. Saturday through Sunday. The building will be ready for its occupants again Monday morning, May 14.

Power to Kohl Hall will be off and the building closed from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday.

It is recommended that all computers and electronics be turned off at the end of the workday on Friday, May 12, and, if possible, unplugged. Perishable items should be removed from refrigerators. Any other sensitive items that could be affected by the loss of power should also be addressed.

These planned electrical shutdowns are the first of a series that will resume in early July and go on until Labor Day weekend in other buildings around campus. Excavation work will begin Monday (May 8) near Doyt Perry Stadium in preparation for new wiring and underground conduits.

Thank you for your patience during these necessary shutdowns, which will ultimately result in a much improved and more reliable campus electrical/power distribution system.
