Satisfactory Academic Progress

You must meet all of the following standards to remain eligible for federal and state financial aid.

• Be enrolled in a degree or certificate program
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA
  • Undergraduates:
        After 1st year: 1.75 GPA
        After 2nd year: 2.0 GPA
  • Graduate students:  3.0 GPA
• Complete at least 67% of all attempted classes
  • Calculated as total credit hours passed divided by the total credit hours attempted. Example: If you attempt 30 credit hours, you must successfully complete at least 20 credit hours (67%).
  • Includes all classes taken at BGSU, even if you did not receive aid at the time.
• Finish your program within the maximum time frame
  • Complete your degree or certificate within the maximum attempted hours or within 150% of the required credit hours. Example: If your program requires 120 credit hours, you must finish within 180 credit hours.

• Your financial aid will be suspended.
• You will receive notice via email.
• You may appeal your suspension for a serious issue (injuries/illness, family emergencies, etc.).

If you are no longer eligible for financial aid because you did not meet one or more of the SAP requirements, BGSU offers resources to help you get back on track. 

• Submit a SAP appeal form explaining your situation.
• SFA may request additional documentation to verify your circumstances.

If your appeal is approved, you will be placed on probation and required to follow an Academic Plan for future financial aid consideration. You will be eligible to receive aid for one payment period (semester) at a time until all SAP deficiencies are corrected. 

If your appeal is denied, that decision is final. Your eligibility for financial aid will remain suspended. You can regain eligibility by completing courses and meeting SAP requirements.
