4. Come study in Austria with BGSU

Description: Join our info night on studying abroad in Europe! Austria is literally in the heart of Europe!

The AYA Salzburg Program in Austria is a BGSU study-abroad program and open to all! No German or prerequisites are needed and students can take courses in most disciplines in English. It includes a BGSU director, too! It is one of the most inexpensive programs that BGSU sponsors abroad, as it costs exactly the same as studying at BGSU, if not a bit less.

Come join us and Dr. Guntersdorfer, our BGSU Salzburg Program director and the German Club from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6. Our director from the University of Salzburg and student alumni of our program will talk about studying in Salzburg in Austria as an undergrad or graduate students. Description: If you have a movie, music video, documentary, TV broadcast, recorded live production or other video work that you've completed in the past year, you are highly encouraged to submit.

Along with submitting your film there, you must fill out the Google form linked on the page and the attached credits document. This helps us keep submissions organized and make sure people get properly credited for their hard work. Not all submitted works are guaranteed to be screened, but all works will be evaluated by our panel of judges and have feedback provided to the filmmaker(s).

Description: Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference April 25-26

Indie Lens Pop-Up, WBGU-PBS, the Department of Popular Culture and the School of Cultural and Critical Studies at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, are proud to announce the Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference. The conference will serve as a celebration and screening of the Independent Lens film, We Want the Funk.

The Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference will also be a space for academics, graduate students, musicians, music industry professionals, music/sound recording retailers, fans and the public to engage in dialogue about topics related to funk music and its cultural influence in popular music, popular culture and beyond. The scope of the Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference is deliberately broad, with the intention of highlighting the interdisciplinary nature and the many different avenues of research and creativity related to funk music in popular culture.

We welcome individual proposals or pre-formed panels that address the themes above. As the conference aims to provide a multitude of perspectives, academic presentations and those from outside the academy are welcome. Individual presentation proposals—papers, music demonstrations or artistic displays—should include a 300-word abstract. Panel or roundtable presentation proposals should include a 300-word abstract for each presenter and a 500-word abstract for the panel or roundtable.

Submit proposals as a Microsoft Word document to funkmusic@bgsu.edu with “Funk Music in Popular Culture” in the subject line and include the following information for each presenter:

Description: We invite students of color enrolled in our Health and Human Services (HHS) programs at BGSU to participate in a focus group that aims to gain a clearer understanding of the challenges and opportunities in core science courses and within our HHS majors (e.g., Allied Health, Communication Disorders, Criminal Justice, Dietetics, Gerontology, Health Science, Healthcare Administration, Nutrition Science Nursing, Pre-Med, Public Health, Social Work). The focus group interview will provide valuable insights that will help inform our efforts to create a more inclusive learning environment for all students. We assure you that all data collected as part of this study will remain confidential. You will receive a $25 Amazon gift card as an incentive for participating in the focus group.

Advance registration is required for all CFE events. Registration closes one business day before the event. CFE workshops and events are open to all BGSU faculty members, adjunct instructors, graduate students and administrative and classified staff members, unless noted otherwise.
