6. Last chance to share your story for International Women’s Day
Date and Time: From 3-7 p.m. on Monday, March 11.
Location: Pallister Conference Room, Jerome Library; the closest parking lot is Lot N
Fill out the proposal form now!
Description: The CWGE is planning its annual International Women’s Day event, adding onto it a celebration of International Sex Workers’ Rights Day!
This year’s event is titled All Work and No Pay: The Devaluation of Care Work and Sex Work. It considers the breadth of care work done primarily by women, including parenting, sex work and other forms of affective labor in relationships and professional lives. The Center will be putting on an art show featuring members of the BGSU community, asking participants to reflect on their care labor and what it means to them – a job, a vector of gendered oppression, a passion, whatever that might be. Any kind of art is welcome! Additionally, participants are encouraged to submit academic research to provide a disciplinary scaffolding of understanding for the art and its importance.
If statements are made about groups the participant does not belong to, the Center asks that the message focuses on criticizing oppressive systems and avoids harmful and dehumanizing stereotypes, such as presenting sex work as inherently victimizing or equivalent to sex trafficking.
Artistic submissions should be under seven minutes if time is needed to present or perform it and academic submissions should be under 15 minutes. Having art presented anonymously is an option as well. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, you can fill out the proposal form at your convenience and send in submissions to cwge@bgsu.edu by March 1.

Description: First-year students: Apply for the Thompson Working Families Achievement Scholarship!
The Robert and Ellen Thompson Working Families Achievement Scholarship was founded to provide access to higher education, specifically for students from working families where the cost to attend may have deterred or prevented their enrollment. This scholarship program is based on financial need and rewards academic performance from a student’s first year at BGSU, as well as a commitment to service. This is a three-year scholarship program where students are provided opportunities to connect, engage and serve and have the support of a team of advisors.
Students receiving this scholarship are awarded up to $5,500 from the Thompson Foundation, with up to a $5,500 match from BGSU, for a total of $11,000. Students may already have scholarships from BGSU that would be the match.
The Thompson Working Families Achievement Scholarship is available to current first-semester freshman BGSU students who will complete their first year at BGSU at the end of the Spring 2024 semester. Students must have at least a 3.00 cumulative BGSU GPA and at least 30 earned credit hours at the end of Spring 2024. A 2024-2025 FAFSA must also be submitted by March 1, 2024. Community service in high school and/or college is also a plus, since community service hours are required for this scholarship program. Students will be expected to engage with the program by attending our required scholarship orientation program in April, other group programming and group service initiatives and one-on-ones with their scholarship advisor throughout the academic year.
