1. Apply for the Active Learning Certificate Program!
Date and Time: Application deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12
Active Learning Certificate Program Application Form
Description: The CFE’s Active Learning Certificate Program has extended its application deadline for the spring 2024 program. During this two-month long hybrid program, you will reflect on your current teaching practices, develop a plan for incorporating active learning into your teaching, and practice implementing active learning strategies into your classroom instruction. After successfully completing the program, you will receive a digital certificate and badge noting your accomplishment. Receipt of the Active Learning Certificate allows you to be pre-assigned to an active learning classroom. Applications are due Monday, Feb. 12. Space is limited. This program is open to all BGSU faculty members, adjunct instructors, graduate students, and administrative and classified staff members.

2. Spirit of BG administrative staff nominations open for one more week!
Every month, the Administrative Staff Council recognizes administrative staff members who are caught showing "The Spirit of BG" as defined by any of the core values of BGSU:
- Intellectual and personal growth
- Creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurism
- Diversity and inclusion
- Collaboration with each other and our partners
- Excellence in all we do
If you are a member of the University community (faculty, staff, student) you may nominate an employee for "The Spirit of BG Award". Complete a nomination form, providing a short summary (up to 250 words) as to why you feel this person deserves the award. Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. on the last day of the month to be considered for the following month's recognition.

6. Free Mental Health First Aid - Feb. 9

Mental Health First Aid registration
Description: Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adults ages 18 and over. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy, providing an action plan that teaches people to identify and address a potential mental health or substance use challenge safely and responsibly.

8. Unmasked: Neurodivergent student support group

Description: Neurodivergent: Having a mind that functions in ways that differ from societal standards of “normal.” This group aims to provide students with a place to share their struggles, give and receive support from others, and discuss their lived experiences without having to mask who they are. 10. Ambassadors for the College of Art and Science

Apply to become a Student Ambassador for the College of Arts and Sciences!
- Student ambassadors will play a pivotal role in promoting the College of Arts and Sciences to prospective students and their families, which will further expand their interpersonal, leadership and professional skills.
- Leaders will have the opportunity to share personal college experience with others, who are anxious to hear “what it’s like” to be a BGSU student and explain how these experiences have impacted them.
- The program encourages student ambassadors to express their experiences and ideas with the College of Arts and Sciences and to incorporate their own ideas into the student ambassador program.
- Current students within the College of Arts and Sciences will see the student ambassadors as leaders, who will organize and program events to better serve the BG community and less fortunate.
- Cultivate an invaluable résumé-building experience.

1. Curriculog Next Steps: A hands-on workshop

Description: Curriculog is BGSU’s new curriculum proposal management system. Join the Center for Faculty Excellence and the Curriculog implementation team for their interactive, in-person session, “Curriculog Next Steps: A Hands-on Workshop,” to practice using the platform. Bring your laptop and any materials you need to submit a proposal for a new course or program or to submit a course or program change. This training is designed for faculty and staff who will be submitting and/or approving curriculum proposals. You should have previously attended the “Curriculog for New Proposers and Approvers Workshop” and/or have some familiarity with Curriculog prior to attending this workshop.

2. Engage and motivate your students this semester!

Description: Space is still available in the new learning community for faculty and instructors, “Student Engagement & Motivation Learning Community." This semester-long learning community, led by assistant teaching professor, Jennifer Stuart, will explore how to encourage a growth mindset in your students and how to ensure that students stay motivated throughout the course. This learning community will meet in-person 6 times throughout the spring semester starting on Friday, Jan. 26.
All BGSU faculty, adjunct instructors, graduate students, and staff are welcomed and encouraged to participate in this learning community. Participants in this program who meet eligibility and participation requirements may receive $100 upon their successful completion of the program.

4. January Research and Innovation Forum

Description: The Office of the Vice President for Research is hosting a January Research and Innovation Forum on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Drs. Megan Rancier and Christopher Witulski, associate teaching professors in ethnomusicology, will share how their use of ethnographic and arts research methodologies inform their interdisciplinary research of music traditions in Kazakhstan and Morocco. As trained musicians, Rancier and Witulski use participant observation to incorporate insights from musicians' perspectives, leveraging these experiences into applied pedagogy in the College of Musical Arts. 5. New OhioLINK open access agreements with Springer and Elsevier - Corrected Link
Learn more about new OhioLINK open access agreements!
Description: OhioLINK recently announced two new open access (OA) publishing agreements with Springer and Elsevier, as well as the renewal and expansion of their existing OA agreement with Wiley. These agreements are cost neutral, which means no additional cost to BGSU and no cost to participating BGSU-affiliated authors.
The Springer and Elsevier agreements join existing OA agreements with Cambridge University Press and Institute of Physics (IOP). Read more about each agreement. University Libraries will share information about OhioLINK’s upcoming faculty webinars when it becomes available.

1. All-college book 'Ma and Me' launch party

Description: Join the campus and community to launch the all-college book, 'Ma and Me' by Putsata Reang. All are welcome!
In MA AND ME, Reang explores the long legacy of inherited trauma and the crushing weight of cultural and filial duty. With rare clarity and lyric wisdom, Ma and Me is a stunning, deeply moving memoir about love, debt and duty.
We will have coffee, cocoa and free copies of the book for you to take. In this expo-like event, we will be hosting a variety of opportunities to engage in the themes of the book. Participants will receive tickets at each station for a chance to win one of three $25 Amazon e-gift cards.
The culmination of the all-college book will be the author's visit on Wednesday, April 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the Cedar Point Center Auditorium. The speaker event is free and open to the public.
