1. Creating a hunger-free future

The Ohio Hunger Dialogues is a state-wide conference focused on the issues of hunger in the local and global communities. Open to the general public, this dynamic dialogue seeks to engage attendees in conversations around the systematic issues of hunger and food insecurity in Ohio communities.

For Friday, Sept. 8, this day will focus on research, evaluation, professional practice and policy with an emphasis on our faculty, staff and community audiences.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, we will create spaces for students, activists and community-based practitioners to share best practices, discuss program examples and create ideas. Student’s who are interested should email Dr. Hamady at carrieh@bgsu.edu. Please include the days you want to attend and any dietary restrictions!

2. Dance Dance Revolution today at Student Rec!

Come groovy with us and play Dance Dance Revolution (DDR)! Drop-in play is from noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday this week at the Student Rec Center in the main floor lounge. DDR is a rhythm and dance game in which players stand on a "dance platform" and hit colored arrows laid with their feet to musical and visual cues. 3. Hybrid self-care program

Well-Being Series: Free 60-minutes sessions on mental well-being topics including self-care, managing anxious thoughts and emotions, managing holiday and winter stress, caring for the caregiver and recovering from burnout.

Personalized and Sustainable Self-Care sessions will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, and Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Student Rec Center classroom and virtual.

5. Pack Cochrane! BGSU Women's Soccer vs Notre Dame

Grab a friend and come out to Cochrane Stadium as Women's Soccer takes on Notre Dame at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10! We want to break the attendance record for a Falcon Women's Soccer game - the goal is 1,500 fans! First 100 students get a free t-shirt!

6. Pro-life political workshop

A pro-life political workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, in Central Hall 104.

Learn about grassroots organizing, lobbying and election work with Jordan Moorman of Students for Life! Discussing the Ohio abortion amendment, heartbeat bills and life at conception bills. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided by SFLA.

7. Falcons and Friends Football Tailgate on Sept. 9

The excitement of the 2023 Falcon Football season is upon us! Make plans to join us at the Falcons and Friends Football Tailgate from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, before our Falcons take on Eastern Illinois.

Cost: $20. Menu includes: hamburgers, hotdogs, coleslaw, chips, dessert and non-alcoholic beverages.

3. Interested in becoming a more ethical leader?

The Ethical Leadership Certificate (ELC) is a program that helps you develop integrity and purpose as a leader. This certificate will help you develop self-awareness as an ethical and intentional leader by focusing on personal values, ethical decision-making and making change in your society. The ELC incorporates foundational elements of the social change model of leadership and builds upon values of integrity and purpose to support students in their efforts to become more ethical and informed leaders in their communities.

The next Ethical Leadership Certificate will take place on Sunday, Sept. 10!

Need assistance with food? The Dean of Students is here to help. We offer two food assistance programs that can help you with that.

You can also stop in during our drop-in hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in University Hall 303 and one of our staff members can assist you.

6. Non-judgmental student conversations: Fostering Belonging

Just like our academic school supplies, we need a variety of mental health “school supplies” to succeed in college. Join other students from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, in the Jerome Library Market for this welcoming and non-judgmental space, fostering open and honest conversations on the challenges and successes of starting college. This program is free to all students.

Active Christians Today (ACT) has a Thursday night group Bible study from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. each week at the blue house with an orange door across from Founders on Wooster! 10. Free Sexual Health Cycle Class at SRC – Sept. 7

Falcon Fitness + Wellness Connection = Free Sexual Health Cycle Class!

Enjoy a fun 30-minute express cycle class, then learn about the different “cycles” of sexual health and infection protection with the Wellness Connection! Students who participate receive free prevention and wellness supplies.

Reserve your bike and pre-register on the MyRec portal. When logging in, select ‘BGSU MyRec Login’ and use your BGSU username and password. Select Fitness and then the Free Sexual Health Cycle Class!

11. Open House: Philosophy, Politics, Economics and Law

12. Screen-writing master class with Mitch Brian

Mitch Brian is a screenwriter, filmmaker and educator. He co-created Batman: The Animated Series and has written screenplays and teleplays for major studios, networks and producers. His recent projects included uncredited work on The Last Voyage of the Demeter and, with co-writer Kevin Willmott, a recent option of their screenplay Rio Negro to the producers of Blackkklansman and Get Out.

The informative and engaging evening begins with the screening of the 1993 Oscar-winning short Schwarzfahrer (Black Rider) by Pepe Danquart, which will be a shared reference point for Mr. Brian's comments and audience members' questions. The event will be of special interest to creative writers, filmmakers and media-makers. It is free and open to everyone on campus.

13. Sign up for Green Game Day!

BGSU Football season means lots of recycling! We still have a few slots available for our first Green Game Day of the year this coming Saturday! Shifts are two hours each and involve picking up and sorting recycling on golf carts in the tailgate areas and Doyt L. Perry Stadium. 1. CFE workshop: Instructor Video Recording Studio

Are you an instructor looking to enhance the courses you’re teaching using video content and looking for a quiet space to record? Join us for an immersive workshop where you'll learn how to utilize our video recording studio. Through hands-on experience you'll learn how to operate the video camera, lighting kit and microphone, empowering you to deliver engaging and visually appealing instructional videos. This workshop will take place on Sept. 29 from 1 to 2 p.m. in Olscamp 109.

You'll have the opportunity to work directly with the equipment, experiment with different setups and record a video session using the video recording studio. This workshop is open to instructors and staff. Register for the event. Registration will close one business day prior to the event.

2. CFE workshop: Intro to Creating Accessible Course Content

Join the Center for Faculty Excellence for a workshop about creating accessible course content from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, in Olscamp 106! Taking a proactive approach to modifying or creating accessible course content (images, documents, presentations, videos, etc.) can be helpful for both you and your students. During this workshop, you will learn about accessibility best practices for common course content types, the relevant features for A11y LTI for Canvas and additional resources related to accessibility and accommodations for students.

3. CFE workshop: SAAC Reports

Are you completing a SAAC report and have questions? Join this workshop offered by the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and the Office of Academic Assessment on how to complete SAAC Reports. This virtual session will review the SAAC reporting process, including the assessment plan and reporting cycle, short-form assessment reports, long-form assessment reports and rubrics. During this session, we also will discuss best practices and lessons learned from the SAAC reporting process. This workshop is from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, via Zoom. This event is open to all BGSU faculty, adjunct instructors, graduate students and administrative and classified staff.

4. Register for the CFE Professional Engagement Certificate!

Reminder to submit an interest form for The Center for Faculty Excellence new CFE Professional Engagement Certificate! This certificate is intended to recognize members of the BGSU community for their participation in professional development activities and their commitment to supporting student success through professional development. In order to successfully complete the program, participants must attend at least five different CFE workshops during the academic year and submit a completion form that reflects on the impact of the professional development they engaged in. Please fill out the interest form by Sept. 29.
