1. Dance Marathon at BGSU 2023!

Dance Marathon at BGSU 2023 will occur on Sunday, April 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Perry Field House! The theme this year is "The Magic of Miracles"! There will be inflatables, carnival games, face painters, balloon artists, caricatures, 12 hours of on-stage entertainment and free food! Our goal is to raise money for the local Children's Miracle Network hospitals and change the lives of children! Our Instagram is @dm_bgsu and the link to register is in our bio!

2. Trans Day of Visibility keynote speaker

Join us from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, in BTSU 228 for a conversation with Braxton Fleming around visibility and the importance of community to celebrate Trans Day of Visibility.

Braxton T. Fleming (he/him) is the CEO and founder of Stealth Bros. & Co., a luxury dopp kit supply company that provides travel and at home personal storage for hormone replacement therapy and other medical necessities. Stealth Bros. & Co. is changing the daily-use medical supplies industry by making sharps containers more stylish so the people who use them don’t feel so stigmatized. From his own bedroom in 2017, Braxton conceptualized the company as a method to raise money for his own top surgery. With a passion for helping others, Stealth Bros. & Co. encourages donations to members of the LGBT community in need and is a proud Certified LGBT Business Enterprise of NGLCC. As a trans person of color, Braxton hopes to use his entrepreneurship to represent, inspire and uplift other trans people along their journeys.

3. Celebrate OneDay at the Maurer Center with games, prizes and food!

Join the Schmidthorst College of Business from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, in the Maurer Center Atrium to help celebrate BGSU OneDay. Receive game tokens when you donate to the BGSU OneDay page and play games such as skee ball, putt putt, corn hole and more!

Earn raffle tickets for the chance to win BGSU and Schmidthorst College gear. Any student who donates $5 will have the chance to win a Freddie or Frieda bobblehead in business attire! 4. CURS Summer Grant application round CLOSING SOON

The application round for the CURS Summer Grant is now open with a submission deadline of Monday, April 3. CURS Summer Grant applications can be submitted online.

Undergraduate research/scholarly/creative projects with a faculty mentor in any discipline are funded with up to $500 for the project cost ($750 for a group project of 3-5 students). Each student is expected to work 23 hours per week on the project for 10 weeks during the summer semester and will receive a stipend of up to $2,500 for their work paid out in installments for the duration of the project. Start dates are flexible based upon project needs.

Application consists of:

  • Online form (student(s) information, faculty mentor(s) information, general project information)
  • Project narrative (2-3 pages including project title, introduction, scholarly question/topic, description of what student(s) is/are planning to do for the project, anticipated outcomes and brief discussion of how the project’s anticipated outcomes related to the project’s scholarly question/topic and how they fit into the current state of the project’s discipline)
  • Budget (itemized list of anticipated purchases with individual costs as well as the total amount requested)
  • Reference letter(s) by faculty mentor(s) indicating their support of the student and the project

5. Energy healing, socializing and yoga - FREE

Join Group X instructor, Bryant, and Maria, for this special class that includes a 15-minute upbeat vinyasa flow incorporating exercise and breathwork, followed by 30-minute yin portion of the class with optional hands-on reiki assistance. This is the perfect balance of yin and yang, allowing the body to become energized and then balancing that with calm breathing and slow stretching.

Following the yoga/reiki class will be the well-being social. This includes tea, snacks and empowering conversations. You can come for the yoga/reiki class, well-being social – or both!

6. FORGE Executive Board elections

FORGE will be holding elections for the executive board at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, in Olscamp 107! The positions President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Press Representative will be available to run for. Share this with anyone you think would be interested in making a change and helping to diversify BGSU.

President

  • 2-4 hours per week
  • Scheduling speakers, meetings and events
  • Preparing/organizing general and executive meetings
  • Managing the Bathroom Project

Vice President

  • 1-2 hours per week
  • Supervise meetings in the President's absence
  • Assist President in planning events and general meetings
  • Organize larger projects (The Gender Monologues, art show, etc.)
  • Schedules locations for meetings and events

Secretary

  • 1 hour per week
  • Assist Vice President with projects
  • Maintain communication between executives and general members via email and campus updates
  • Maintain a current list of members

Treasurer

  • 1 hour per week
  • Prepare the annual student organization budget
  • Keep a record of all transactions
  • Collect funds and deposit them into the student organization account

Press Representative

  • 2-3 hours per week
  • Stay up-to-date on FORGE and other affiliated organizations
  • Lead on posters and other promotional materials
  • Runs social media account (Instagram)

7. FREE Mental Health First Aid - Save a life

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adults ages 18 and over. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy and provides an action plan that teaches people to identify and address a potential mental health or substance use challenge safely and responsibly.

8. Free quality clothing- Rainbow Threads, the queer shopping eExperience!

Join us for a Queer Clothing Exchange. Come find gender affirming clothes and swap out some of your own if you'd like. From 2 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, in BTSU 308. This event is open to all! If you are a student in need of gender affirming items complete the online form.

9. Graduate student research: Check it out!

Are you interested in learning about what research graduate students are doing on campus? Join us from 12:15 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, in BTSU 315 to hear from both master's and doctoral students discussing their research. There will be four back-to-back sessions (12:15 to 1:15 p.m.; 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.; 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.; 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.) where different students will be presenting their research. There will be a wide range of topics being discussed, including Deweyan Democracy, Food Insecurity in College Students, Assessment of Racial Microaggressions and so much more. This is a multidisciplinary event, meaning there will be a wide range of topics.

All faculty, staff, students (both undergraduate and graduate) and community members are invited to attend this event. You do not need to RSVP, but we encourage you to express interest in the Graduate Student Senate Shanklin Colloquium.

10. Movie Night TONIGHT in the Pop. Culture Library!

Join the Browne Popular Culture Library TONIGHT from 6 to 8 p.m. for a showing of the documentary GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (2012). The showing will be followed by a discussion led by Logan Johnson, American Culture Studies Ph.D. candidate, and graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Theatre and Film. 12. SAAM 5K and Dog Walk

Join the Wellness Connection at the Student Recreation Center in showing your support for Sexual Assault Awareness Month by participating in the annual SAAM 5K and Dog Walk fundraiser event on Saturday, April 15!

All proceeds raised at the SAAM 5K and Dog Walk will go into supporting the Center for Violence Prevention and Education and The Cocoon, which provides crisis intervention and emotional support for victims of sexual assault, stalking, sexual harassment and sex trafficking.

Those who register will receive a free SAAM 5K and Dog Walk t-shirt, along with a free dog bandana to those who register with their furry friend! Packet pick up starts at 9 a.m.!

13. Stop by the Falcon Food Pantry!

The Falcon Food Pantry is open on Monday and Thursday from noon to 3 p.m. and Wednesday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. for any BGSU student, faculty or staff member to stop by and shop for a free bag of food. We also have hygiene products. Please bring your BGSU ID and a reusable bag with you if you would like to shop. We are located at 109 Central Hall.

14. Title IX survey

Extended deadline until March 31! You should have all received an invitation to take 10 minutes to complete a survey that will help BGSU better respond to and prevent sexual and relationship violence, as well as understand how you feel about belonging on campus. Thank you to all that have already completed the survey. As a trigger warning, these questions are personal. The survey begins with demographic questions, followed by questions about belonging and continues with questions related to sexual and relationship violence. If you feel uncomfortable, you may stop at any point.

Come and meet a staff mentor from the Independent Falcon Network at our table from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, in the BTSU.

The Independent Falcon Network is a network for independent students, connecting them with individuals and resources that support and encourage academic success, self-reliance and community. 2. Anxiety Survival Skills Workshop: Exposure-Based Strategies

When we avoid things that cause us fear or worry, it maintains the anxiety and blocks us from functioning well. Thus, it can be important to “face your fears.” In this class you’ll learn about ways to decrease avoidance and approach fears in order to overcome them.

This is a free workshop focused on exposure-based strategies for students struggling with anxiety.

1. Call for applications: CFE Faculty Associates

Each year, the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) welcomes applications for three Faculty Associate positions. Faculty Associates partner with the CFE to serve as a resource and an active participant with other faculty, staff, administrators and graduate students to reach the strategic goals of the CFE. Associates will be expected to design and facilitate one Learning Community per semester and assist with the facilitation of CFE workshops on an as-needed basis. Faculty Associates are compensated for their work with the CFE.

2. Call for nominations to ICS Executive Board

We are seeking nominations and self-nominations to serve on the Executive Board of ICS. For this cycle, we are particularly interested in nominations for those in the social sciences or natural sciences. If you are a faculty or staff member with a passion for interdisciplinary collaborations, community engagement and high-impact programming, please consider applying to be a board member; if you know someone who fits this description, please nominate them.

To nominate someone for the board, send an email to ics@bgsu.edu with the person’s name, email address, title and program/unit/department. We will ask all nominees to submit a statement of interest and relevant experience (500 words maximum) and a CV. The term of service is three years, to begin in fall 2023.

The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 7.

3. CFE Teaching & Learning Summit 2023: Call for proposals deadline extended

BGSU’s Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) is excited to announce that the call for presentation proposals for the 2023 Teaching & Learning Summit has been extended until Friday, March 31. The Summit will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, in Olscamp Hall. The theme for this year’s summit is Teaching for the Public Good. Presentations will explore the various roles in teaching for the public good from the perspectives of four pillars:

  • Pillar 1: Pedagogical Innovation
  • Pillar 2: Equity & Access
  • Pillar 3: Student Success and Belonging
  • Pillar 4: Scholarship of Teaching & Learning

4. Search Committee Training for faculty/staff - virtual

This training focuses on building inclusive searches and should be taken by anyone chairing or serving on a search committee. We will review definitions, information on identities, conflict of interests, expectations of the chair and committee members and ways search committees help advance overarching goals. An upcoming training will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, April 3.
