4. Presenting: Dr. Subha Nagarajan and her research on the Role of Subject Specific Acceleration in Gifted Education

The CWGE would like to present Dr. Subha Nagarajan and her research on the Role of Subject Specific Acceleration in Gifted Education on Wednesday, April 14 at 12 p.m.

“In the last decade, several studies have established acceleration is a programmatic option for gifted learners with clearly documented positive outcomes. Among the different forms of acceleration, subject-specific acceleration is a viable means of curricular and instructional differentiation for gifted students. However, subject-specific acceleration is often an underutilized strategy, particularly at elementary schools. The presentation will focus on the design and implementation of a subject-specific acceleration program for gifted students in grades 5-6. The presentation will also examine the role of gender and ethnicity of gifted students on their academic performance. Findings from this study support growing research evidence that subject-based acceleration works well for gifted students.”

Register for this virtual event by e-mailing cwge@bgsu.edu.

5. Information, Information Literacy, and Democracy

“Information literacy (IL) is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning.” (Association of College and Research Libraries, 2015). IL concepts and skills apply to academic assignments, but how are we helping our students transfer those skills to everyday information gathering, particularly in the context of community engagement and preparing active, informed citizens in a democracy? In this workshop, faculty will integrate information literacy knowledge practices and dispositions into a new or existing course unit, assignment, learning activity, or program.

Please click HERE for additional information, and to register for the workshop.
