Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement

The BGSU Early Childhood Education 4-5 Generalist Endorsement (ECE) program is a high-quality program of study that prepares you to teach all subject areas in grades 4 and 5.

The ECE endorsement consists of five classes (15 credit hours). Courses are taken at the graduate level and a BGSU Certificate may be earned through the Graduate College. The  4/5 endorsement courses are:

• EDTL 5500
Upper Elementary Social Studies Instruction (June 15-July 10, 2026)

• EDTL 5501
Upper Elementary Math Instruction (May 18-June 12, 2026)

• EDTL 5502
Upper Elementary Science Instruction (June 15-July 12, 2026)

• EDTL 5503
Upper Elementary Language Arts Instruction (May 18-June 12, 2026)

• EDFI 6710
Human Growth & Development (June 29- Aug 7, 2026)

• EDTL 6800   
Practicum (March 30-June 12, 2026)   

Eligibility:

• Licensed Early Childhood Education professionals
• Teacher candidates who are currently enrolled as juniors in a teacher preparation program leading to early childhood licensure.

Licensure Examinations:

•Once coursework is finished, candidates must also pass the Ohio Assessment for Educators Elementary Education Test (Subtest I 018) and (Subtest II 019).

• Graduate students click here to apply to the Graduate College. Once you are admitted, you will be able to self-register for classes.
  

• To Obtain the Endorsement:
  • Once course requirements are complete, candidates will need to submit the following to the EDHD Office of Accreditation and Licensure:
    • An Ohio Department of Education Licensure Application
    • Associated fees
    • An official transcript of final grades
    • An official score report confirming passage of the Ohio Assessment for Educators Elementary Education Test (Subtest I 018) and (Subtest II 019).
