FTO Secondary Admissions Process

Aviation Studies: Flight Technology & Operations requires a secondary admission review by the program. The deadline for Fall 2026 students to submit the aviation application is Wednesday, Dec. 10. We are no longer accepting aviation applicants for Fall 2025. Please contact the School of Aviation at 419-372-2437 with additional questions. The specialization of Aviation Management and Operations does not have secondary review.

A: Students must have obtained their FAA 1st, 2nd or 3rd class medical certificate by July 28, 2025, to be eligible to maintain enrollment in their flight lab and begin flight training in the Fall 2025 semester.

A: To locate an approved examiner, refer to the FAA medical website. When using the online examiner search, select “AME” from the designee type drop-down menu.

A: You will not be eligible to enroll in a flight training lab in the Fall 2025 semester. You will still enroll in other aviation courses during this semester. You will have until Dec. 15, 2025, to submit your FAA medical certificate to begin flight training in the Spring 2026 semester. If you are unable to meet the Dec. 15, 2025, your major will be changed automatically to aviation management and operations (AMO). You should plan to meet with your academic advisor to discuss the AMO curriculum or to explore another major that may be a good fit for you.

A: Yes, you can. Students who wish to bring in Private Pilot training from outside of BGSU must have earned their Private Pilot Certificate by July 28 to be eligible to maintain enrollment in instrument-level courses (AERT 2800 - Instrument Ground School, AERT 2810 - Basic Instrument Flight Instruction). You will need to contact the School of Aviation to apply for BGSU Credit By Validation to receive academic credit for the FAA training and be eligible to enroll in the Instrument Flight Training courses.
