Questions? Contact the School of Aviation at 419-372-2437.

If you don't enroll after being admitted

If you are admitted to aviation flight operations but choose not to attend BGSU for that fall cohort, you must reapply for a future fall cohort. You cannot start at BGSU in another major and later transfer into aviation flight operations. Because space is limited, BGSU cannot hold your aviation flight operations spot for a future term.

Next steps after you’re admitted

FAA medical submission requirements for students admitted for the fall semester

Students must have obtained their FAA 1st, 2nd or 3rd class medical certificate at least 4 weeks before fall semester begins. Refer to the FAA medical website to locate an approved examiner. When using the online examiner search, select “AME” from the drop-down menu.

If you are unable to submit documentation prior to the fall start deadline, you will not be eligible to enroll in a flight training lab in the fall semester. You will still enroll in other aviation courses for the fall and will have until Dec. 15 to submit your FAA medical certificate to begin flight training in the spring semester.

If you are unable to meet the Dec. 15th deadline, your major will be changed automatically to aviation management (AM). You should plan to meet with your academic advisor to discuss the aviation management curriculum or to explore another major.

FAA Private Pilot certificate

Students who wish to bring in Private Pilot training from outside of BGSU must have earned their Private Pilot Certificate at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the fall semester to be eligible to maintain enrollment in instrument-level courses.

Students will work with the School of Aviation to apply for and receive academic credit for the FAA training and be eligible to enroll in the Instrument Flight Training courses.

If you are not able to submit your FAA Private Pilot Certificate by 4 weeks prior to the fall semester, contact the School of Aviation prior to the deadline. Students who have not met the requirements to remain in the aviation flight operations major will be changed automatically to aviation management (AM). You should plan to meet with your academic advisor to discuss the aviation management curriculum or to explore another major.
