Registration and Approval Process
All students must register and receive approval for their co-op.
This is the fourth module in your Canvas co-op orientation.
Complete and submit the application during open registration dates and before the first day of the semester in which you are working. Clear your browsing history and cookies before you begin completing the form.
You will need the following information:
- Name, street address and web address of the employer
- Name, title, email and phone of your expected co-op supervisor or hiring authority
- Your co-op position title and description
- Dates, hours and number of weeks you will be working
- Your pay rate
You should plan to work at your co-op during the dates that correlate with the academic semester in which you are registered for the co-op (fall and spring 15-week session, summer 12-week session).
The Office of Cooperative Education will review your application if all requirements are met it will be sent forward for final approval and registration. Your college department grants final approval.
Once approved, the Office of Cooperative Education will register you for the co-op course and notify you by email. Retroactive co-op credit cannot be granted. Check your course schedule in MyBGSU to be sure the co-op course (TECH 2890, 3890 or 4890) is listed on your schedule.
If the course does not appear, then you are not registered. Email ceicoop@bgsu.edu for assistance.
The co-op office and your assigned faculty representative will communicate with you via email and Canvas about your:
- Co-op approval
- Assignments and due dates
- Assigned faculty representative
- Required revisions
- Site review/scheduling and more
Check your email and the co-op Canvas course regularly while at your co-op.
Part-time co-op format
A part-time co-op registration will show that you are registered for your co-op only during the FIRST semester of the two-semester, part-time format.
A part-time co-op occurs over two consecutive semesters, but all official paperwork is processed the first semester.
- Register for your co-op course.
- Pay the tuition for the credit-bearing co-op course.
- Earn a passing score on your co-op report and co-op photo.
- Participate in the co-op site review.
- Work at least 20 hours each week during both semesters.
- At the end of this semester, you will temporarily receive a grade of "INC." This will be changed to an "S" pending successful completion of ALL co-op requirements.
You do not need to re-register your co-op.
- Continue working at least 20 hours a week.
- Your supervisor must send an email to the co-op office verifying you have worked the minimum required co-op hours.
- At the end of this semester your grade will be updated to S/U.
