| What are the most significant barriers or challenges your program is currently facing (e.g., enrollment, faculty resources, student support, accreditation requirements)?
Responses will not be used to evaluate or penalize program. The information collected is for the purpose of informing broader understanding, identifying trends, and guiding future policy. | The most significant challenges faced by our program have to do with recent legislation passed by our state. It is now quite difficult to use diversity, equity, and inclusion data or priorities. We also struggle to find qualified adjuncts in our area. Finally, the number of credit hours required for licensure when compared to related fields (social work, behavioral health, psychology, etc.) has made it more of a challenge to recruit and retain quality students.
| What successes or available resources have contributed most to your program's growth, effectiveness, or ability to support students?
Responses will not be used to evaluate or penalize program. The information collected is for the purpose of informing broader understanding, identifying trends, and guiding future policy. | We are fortunate to have strong student-centered faculty that are well known and respected in this area leading to a draw for many students. The benefit of being at a R2 university versus a R1 allows the faculty to really emphasize their teaching. Finally, the support provided by our administration of our school, along with supportive administrative assistants helps contribute to our program's effectiveness and ability to support students.
| What is CACREP doing well for your program that you appreciate? | The new AMS program has been helpful. Additionally, CACREP has been very prompt responding to questions regarding requirement and standards. The webinars on self-studies and site visits was also helpful. | |||
| What would you like to see CACREP do differently in its current services? | The need to submit the same artifact (such as a program handbook or course syllabi) for multiple standards is redundant and could be streamlined. The amount of time needed to collect these forms multiple times is very time-consuming for counselor educators that are already stretched thin with multiple responsibilities. While accreditation and standards are important, the field is losing high quality counselor educators due to increasing demands, and CACREP should be supporting those educators. | |||
| What services or resources would you like to see CACREP add or develop that would better serve you and your program? | It would be helpful to have research to demonstrate the benefit of the required FTE ratios and credit hour requirement to provide to university administration. Our faculty constantly remind university official of the need for our program to maintain these standards, but have little to provide when asked for data and research that supports these requirements. | |||
| Please provide a name and contact email address of the person completing this survey. This address will be used if the CACREP office has any questions about the information provided in this survey. | Dr. J. P. Oehrtman (joehrtm@bgsu.edu) | |||
