Description: The MyBGSU portal will be unavailable from 10 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Feb. 23, while ITS performs an upgrade to the portal’s Liferay application. 9. Planetarium Show: “Phantom of the Universe - The Hunt for Dark Matter”

Description: Mysterious dark matter seems to vastly outweigh the visible matter we can see in the Universe. What is dark matter and how do we learn about this puzzling component of the Universe? “Phantom of the Universe - The Hunt for Dark Matter” explores these questions and showcases the search for the nature of dark matter using the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This full-dome video show is most suitable for ages 13 and up.

10. Presidents Day Open House: Parking lot/road closures

Date and Time: Monday, Feb. 19

Location: Lots 7, 13, 18, 20, 24 and sections of Stadium Drive

Description: On Monday, Feb. 19, the BGSU Office of Admissions is expecting a large number of guests on campus for the 29th annual Presidents Day Open House. Several parking lots and streets will be impacted.

Parking lots 13, 20 and 24 near the Stroh Center and parking lot 18 near the Field House will be reserved for Presidents Day guests from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 19. Very limited parking for those with immediate needs at the Stroh Center will be available on the north side of Lot 24 with access from Alumni Drive.

All sections of parking lot 7, near the Bowen-Thompson Student Union, will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, and reserved only for Presidents Day guests until 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19.

A portion of Stadium Drive near the Doyt Perry Stadium will be closed from Friday, Feb. 16 through Monday, Feb. 19, for check-in activities. Road closure barricades will be in place in the affected area during this time.

Hackers can use your stolen usernames/passwords to initiate Duo prompts. Approving these prompts gives hackers access to your accounts!

Apply to be a Student Coordinator!

Description: The Marvin Center Student Coordinators (MCSCs) assist the Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement by researching, developing, administering and assessing a broad array of leadership development, civic engagement and educational programs. The MCSCs are a group of students passionate about leadership, social change and civic engagement. MCSCs work in the Marvin Center as paraprofessional undergraduate student employees with such tasks as:

  • Leadership and civic engagement program development
  • The facilitation and communication of educational programs
  • Outreach to and consultation with other student organizations and university departments
  • Representing the Marvin Center at various events and on various committees
  • Event planning and execution
  • Serving as administrative support for the Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement

3. Classroom and lab software request deadline for Summer and Fall 2024

The deadline for submitting software requests (for classrooms/computer labs/mobile device carts, etc.) for the Summer/Fall 2024 semesters is April 29. This includes cloud-based software, desktop-based software, mobile apps and domain purchases. All software submission requests (including Canvas LTI integrations) are subject to the university’s software procurement review process, which checks that the software meets accessibility, legal and IT security standards with which BGSU must comply. Software not previously approved by the University can take a minimum of 45 days to be routed through the approval process.

To request software installation, please submit a Lab/Classroom Software Install Request form.

Submissions received after the deadline will be handled in the order received and will not be available for the start of the session/semester.

4. Learn how to teach citations and plagiarism prevention

Description: Do you want to be able to discuss plagiarism and citation practices with your students while avoiding the feelings of mistrust, shame and guilt that often are the result of these conversations? The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and University Libraries will be offering the virtual workshop, “From Punishment to Empowerment: Considering a Cultural Shift in Teaching Citations and Plagiarism Prevention,” with workshop facilitators, Laura Sheets, assistant professor and library instruction coordinator; and Maureen Barry, acting first-year experience coordinator. This workshop will explore how to talk about citations and academic dishonesty with students in a way that can ease stress and create a relationship of care between you and your students.
