Bowling Green, Ohio, lies within the approximately 115-mile-wide path of totality for the upcoming April 8 total solar eclipse. Another total solar eclipse won't be visible in Bowling Green until 2099. What is an eclipse, and why do we see them at all? What should we expect to see on April 8? Start getting ready to safely experience totality!

6. Public Domain Film Festival screening today: The General

Join us for the sixth screening of the Public Domain Film Festival, organized by the Browne Popular Culture Library!

Today, we’re screening The General (1926), a silent action/comedy classic inspired by The Great Locomotive Chase. The movie stars Buster Keaton, the master of deadpan and physical comedy.

10. Free Women and Weights Workshops at SRC

Location: Bowling Green State University Student Recreation Center

Description: Gain knowledge and confidence in the weight room! Join other women on campus at the BGSU Student Recreation Center for free exercise and educational sessions. During these sessions, familiarize yourself with the Rec, learn how to use the strength training equipment and build your own exercise routine with the help of certified personal trainers.

Each workshop includes 4 sessions and is limited to 10 participants. Choose from one of the 4 workshop options:

Description: Join us at the BGSU Planetarium on Thursday and Sunday as we kick off the spring schedule of shows. This semester, planetarium shows will be presented at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays, and 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Sundays.

  • Trip Through Space leads visitors on a gentle tour of the universe, starting with the winter evening sky and progressing through the solar system and on to stars, nebulae and distant galaxies. This full-dome video show is best for about age 10 through adult.

Sunday Jan. 28

  • Mysterious dark matter seems to vastly outweigh the visible matter we can see in the universe. What is dark matter and how do we learn about this puzzling component of the universe? Phantom of the Universe: The Hunt for Dark Matter explores these questions and showcases the search for the nature of dark matter using the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This full dome video show is most suitable for ages 13 and up.

Public stargazing will follow the Sunday 7:30 p.m. program if skies are clear.

Wellness Ambassadors give presentations across campus and help out with events on campus peer-to-peer talking about topics such as self-care, mindfulness, stress relief, healthy sexual health, alcohol and other drugs as well as physical activity.

Description: Research Studies for Undergraduate HHS Students

We invite students of color enrolled in our Health and Human Services (HHS) programs at BGSU to participate in two studies that aim to understand the challenges and opportunities in HHS majors.

Journaling Study: We are seeking HHS students of color who currently taking entry level biology or chemistry courses to complete a series of reflective journal entries on their experiences over the semester. As an incentive for participating, you will receive a $50 Amazon gift card for completing the journaling entries and a $25 Amazon gift card for participating in the follow up focus group. (Please sign up by Monday, Feb 5).

Focus Group: We are conducting focus groups with HHS students of color who have already completed entry level coursework in biology or chemistry. You will receive a $25 Amazon gift card as an incentive for participating.

Description: Is your department undergoing the program review process this semester or in the near future? Would you like to know how you can support your department in their successful completion of the self-study, visit, and annual progress report? Join the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) for this virtual workshop on the Program Review process at BGSU. Facilitated by Dr. Weena-Isabelle Gaulin, the Assistant Director of Institutional Accreditation and Program Review, this workshop will outline the program review timeline and associated action steps, engage you in simulated program review activities, and introduce you to available resources to support your department’s program review.

Description: Want to learn more about service-learning and how you can use it to enrich your courses and contribute to your students’ holistic development? Join the Center for Faculty Excellence and the C. Raymond Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement for the first workshop in Spring 2024 Service-Learning Workshop Series, “What is Service-Learning?”. Facilitated by Hoang Do, Assistant Director of the Marvin Center, this workshop will explore service-learning’s core principles and the benefits for both educators and students. This workshop will take place 3 times throughout the spring semester in Olscamp 106: from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 and March 19
