8. Hex the Patriarchy! Summer Course on Witches and Feminist Resistance

Witches and Feminist Resistance (ACS 3000 102 W 42382/ WS 3000 101W 42599):

This online summer course uses witches and witchcraft to explore how issues of race, class, sexuality, and gender have been understood throughout the history of the feminist movement in the U.S. We will explore texts about witches and goddess worship from the U.S. suffrage movement, radical second-wave feminists, and modern-day feminist witches working to hex the patriarchy! We will analyze these texts to understand how the feminists of each era understood the roles race, gender, sexuality, and class played in the feminist movement, and we will discuss how transphobia, racism, colonialism, and capitalism have either been opposed or perpetrated by people claiming to be feminist witches. Most assignments will allow you to choose from traditional academic writing and arts-based methods to engage with the texts from the course.

Please contact sscheur@bgsu.edu for more information.
