The MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music and the College of Musical Arts proudly present the 42nd Annual Bowling Green New Music Festival Oct. 21-23. The Festival showcases the College's distinctive specialty in contemporary music, featuring performances by students, faculty and guests. There will be six concerts with music by composers from around the globe and featured guest composer Augusta Read Thomas. All concerts and events are free and open to the public.

Are you or a student you know facing food insecurity? The Office of the Dean of Students food assistance programs can provide students with support and resources (i.e. a bag of non-perishable grocery items). Students can complete a food assistance application or come into the Office of the Dean of Students to apply. LGBTQ+ Programs and The Office of Student Engagement are excited to bring Inclusive Sex Ed, featuring renowned sex educator Richelle Frabotta and condom bingo!
Join us Thursday, Oct. 21, in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Ballroom from 6 to 9 p.m., as Richelle enlightens us on sex, confidence and self understanding during her presentation, "Baseball or Pizza: What’s Sex All About". Richelle’s presentation will be followed by a small group Q&A and condom bingo, with the chance to win prizes!
Help create a Community of Care at BGSU and make sure no Falcon struggles unnoticed and alone! Start the Conversation is a collaborative training offered by the Counseling Center and the Humanities Troupe from the Department of Theatre and Film. In the training, you will learn how to contribute to a community of care, how to identify the warning signs of people who may be struggling, and how to help (including suicide prevention strategies). Simple expressions of care are powerful, and you can make a difference in someone's life!
The next training is Wednesday, Oct. 20, 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in BTSU 316. Register and learn more about how you can help create a community of care at BGSU!
On Monday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m., Dr. Christopher Witulski will present his research on how music and performance shape identity in Arab American communities, creating continuity with the past and creating new traditions. Witulski will be sharing his research findings as part of his Faculty Fellowship with BGSU’s interdisciplinary public humanities center, the Institute for the Study of Culture and Society (ICS).

As part of its Community Enrichment Series, Bowling Green State University Firelands will welcome Carson Tueller, LGBTQ+ and disability justice activist, to share his story and life experiences at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, virtually via Zoom.
Tueller's life took an unexpected turn in 2013, the year he came out as a gay man and also injured his spinal cord in an accident that broke his neck, paralyzing him from the chest down. Now as a speaker, presenter and personal development coach, Tueller empowers individuals to reach their full potential in their careers and personal lives. Through his speaking, writing and coaching, Tueller shows people their own value and greatness and gives them a new view of what is possible for their lives.
Tueller's virtual keynote, "Redefining What it Means to Have a Human Body," is free and open to the public by registering.
The University Writing Program celebrates the National Day on Writing on Oct. 20. Are you a female or non-binary performer with a knack for comedy? Audition to have an act in Lady Parts's Women In Comedy show! Auditions will be Sunday, Oct. 24, and Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Central Hall 112. The show is November 13 at 7 p.m. All proceeds from the show go to The Cocoon women's shelter in Bowling Green. We welcome any and all acts (singing, stand up, poetry, etc.)! New Faculty Fridays is a semester-long orientation process designed for full-time faculty and instructors who have been at BGSU for less than 12 months. New Faculty Fridays are opportunities to connect with other faculty members.
