2. Big gay welcome back - Wednesday, Jan. 20th

Join LGBTQ+ Programs, BGSU Firelands Student Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion and our campus allies for a celebration of all things LGBTQ+ at BGSU on Wednesday, January 20 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This event will feature prizes to win, free gifts, the chance to connect with other LGBTQ+ people and LGBTQ+ affirming resources and groups on campus as well as performances by local drag performers Deja Dellataro, Stevie Phoenix and Vivian Vendetta Sinclaire!

Big Gay Welcome Back is a virtual event held through Zoom but will feature audience interaction. The event can be accessed at www.bgsu.edu/bgwb. Please reach out to Gray at gstrain@bgsu.edu with any questions.

3. LGBTQ+ support group starts Jan. 25th

Supported by the LGBTQ+ Resource Center and the Counseling Center, Out(?) Falcons is a support group for people questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, as well as people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, queer and/or trans. This group provides a safe space to share experiences, gain support for challenges impacting your life and the LGBTQ+ community, explore your thoughts and feelings and build relationships with people who have similar experiences. This group is facilitated by staff members who identify within the LGBTQ+ community to ensure a safe, welcoming and confidential space.

4. Spring CURS grant application round open

SECOND ROUND for CURS Spring Grant Application OPEN

Undergraduate research/scholarly/creative projects of 1-2 students with a faculty mentor in ANY discipline or field are funded with $500 toward project costs and a $200 stipend per student. Group projects (3-5 students) can ask for up to $750 with a $200 stipend for each student.

Application Deadline: Monday, January 25, 2021. (a 1-week extension can be given upon request by emailing cmora@bgsu.edu)

Applications are currently accepted at www.bgsu.edu/cursgrant

Application consists of:

• Completion of online form (student(s) information, faculty mentor(s) information, general project information)
• Upload Project narrative (2-3 pages)
• Upload Budget (itemized list of anticipated purchases with individual costs & the total amount requested)
• Upload Reference Letter(s) by faculty mentor(s) indicating their support of the student and the project

6. Know a student in crisis? Here's how to help!

Help create a Community of Care at BGSU and make sure no Falcon struggles unnoticed and alone! Start the Conversation is a collaborative training offered by the Counseling Center and the Humanities Troupe from the Department of Theatre and Film. In the training, you will learn how to contribute to a community of care, how to identify the warning signs of people who may be struggling and how to help (including suicide prevention strategies). Simple expressions of care are powerful, and you can make a difference in someone's life!

The next training is Friday, March 19 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. Register here and learn more about how you can help create a community of care at BGSU.

7. Are you a parent of a 6- to 8-year old?

Are you a parent of a 6- to 8-year old? I am conducting a study with parents of children (aged 6-8) to help better understand how they think about various foods in terms of health and taste. This study may help to learn more about how different aspects of foods may influence how parents and children judge the health and taste of foods. This study is for parents/guardians of a child aged 6-8 years living in the United States. This study will last approximately 40 minutes. 8. Eating research - may earn $150 in gift cards!

The Department of Psychology at Bowling Green State University is conducting a study on the influence of memories on taste perception. If you enroll in the study, you will complete one in-person visit, three remote (e.g., through Zoom) visits and 16 days of answering questions about eating and emotions on your phone.

9. 2020 campus safety and fire security report error

The 2020 Campus Safety and Fire Security report was distributed in December 2020. After distribution of this report, an error within the crime statistics was identified. In an effort to provide accurate information to the campus community, the Clery arrest numbers have been updated to reflect this tabulating error. The updated numbers can be reviewed on our Clery website

3. Peer education spring 2021 training

Become a Peer Educator! Attend a Weekend Training Session!

As a Peer Educator you will present to groups, organizations, classes, departments, etc. on-campus about health and wellness topics including Stress Relief, Healthy Relationships, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Nutrition, Consent, Bystander Intervention and Many More. Peer Educators gain communication, leadership, public speaking, teamwork and presentation skills to take with them into whatever career they choose. Upon completion of the 2-day training, Peer Educators have the opportunity to assist in creating presentations, developing scripts and presenting and attending national and regional peer education related conferences with the Wellness Connection. Must attend both days to become certified.

Dates: Saturday, January 30 AND Sunday, January 31

Time: 12 - 6 p.m.

Cost: Free for all BGSU Students

4. Writing Learning Outcomes Workshop

Writing Clear and Challenging Learning Outcomes

In this workshop, participants will review aspects of “good” learning outcomes. They will identify frameworks for learning outcomes and discuss Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy outcome verbs. Participants will actively discuss learning outcomes templates and identify potential learning outcomes for a course or program.

8. Free weight loss program Spring 2021

Looking to change your eating and exercise habits and lose weight in 2021? We are running a weight loss group for 12 weeks during the spring semester via a private Facebook group. The treatment is delivered completely through the Facebook group. You will be encouraged to make changes to your diet and to increase your physical activity. You must be between the ages of 18-29, have a body mass index in the range of obesity (>30 kg/m2), have a desire to lose weight, own a smartphone or personal computer, have access to a scale and have an existing Facebook account.

Eligible individuals will be randomly assigned to one of three groups. One of the groups will be asked to wait until the summer to participate. There is no cost to participate.

If you are interested in this Facebook-based weight loss group, please fill out this short survey and you will be contacted to schedule a phone screen to determine initial eligibility.

1. How to complete SAAC reports

Attend this session to have your questions about completing Student Achievement Assessment Committee (SAAC) reports answered. The purpose of the SAAC short-form assessment report is to identify and describe the programmatic Learning Outcomes that were assessed this academic year and how the results are being applied to improve programs. The goal of the SAAC long-form assessment report is to describe the assessments completed during past academic years and how the results are being applied to improve programs. Clarifying information about SAAC short-form and long-form reports will be provided.

2. BGP assessment process discussion

All Bowling Green Perspective (BGP) courses have approved learning outcomes that are to be assessed at the end of the semester. This session will discuss the BGP learning outcomes assessment process, show you how to import your assessment and learning outcomes rubric from the BGP shell, and how to complete the assessment in your active Canvas course. Be sure to review your BGP Course Review Proposal and the assessment plan before attending this session.

Building Strength AY 2020/2021 Major Research Grant Program.

• Guidelines for the Building Strength Major Research Grant Program are now available.

4. How to build a website for yourself or your class

This workshop will explain how to create a free website that can be used for your online or face to face classes. Faculty will learn how to develop a free website and how to add pictures and multimedia as well as how to link it to Canvas.

5. Organizing your Canvas shell

This presentation will review a Canvas design that helps to deliver course content in a simplified manner that students will find refreshing thereby eliminating email, questions and frustrations on both your end and the students. By using Pages and Modules and having clear timelines and outcomes established at the beginning of the semester, all users are off to success from day one!

At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:

•Design a Canvas course that students can easily and efficiently navigate.
•Create weekly Modules that are detailed and organized.
•Link your syllabus to the Canvas To Do list and Gradebook for the entire semester.

6. Safe zone training for faculty

The Safe Zone workshop promotes awareness of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer +) people. The workshop provides education concerning LGBTQ+ issues and seeks to improve the environment for LGBTQ+ people. This workshop helps to build a support network of allies for the BGSU LGBTQ+ community.
