3. Choral Evensong in observance of the solar eclipse

Date and Time: From 7-8 p.m. on Monday, April 8.

Location: St. Mark's Lutheran Church at 315 South College Avenue, Bowling Green, Ohio. If the church parking lot is full, attendees may park at Crim Elementary School.

Description: Choral Evensong is a 45-minute sung prayer service. Readings and music will be related to the cosmic event of the day.

No reservation or registration is required. Admission is free of charge.

5. Dance Marathon

Date and Time: From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 7.

Location: Perry Field House

Register or donate to Dance Marathon!

Description: Dance Marathon is a 10-hour event that provides food, service hour opportunities and fun activities for the BGSU community to take part in while raising money for Nationwide Children's Hospital in Toledo, with a separate team that goes out to bike 62 miles for the 62 children admitted to Nationwide Hospitals every minute. Families from the hospital come and interact with participants throughout the event and share their miracle stories throughout the event.

This year's theme is Rodeo, with participants Rounding Up the Miracles. Some different activities that are going to be at event are a mechanical bull, decorating mini cowboy hats, ax throwing inflatable, 360 spin cam, massage chairs and appearances from President Rodgers, SICSIC, Frieda and Freddie Falcons and DJ Alby. There are also many service hour opportunities for participants! Lunch, dinner and snacks will be provided.

Description: Join the Center for Women and Gender Equity for our last research seminar of the year with Wendy Manning from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 in Hayes 203!

Although the pandemic was stressful for everyone, few studies focused on people in the LGBTQ+ community. Dr. Manning will discuss how LGBTQ+ individuals uniquely coped with COVID-19, considering disparities in their rates of negative and positive pandemic-related coping behaviors. These responses to the pandemic may have long-term implications for the health and well-being of sexually and gender diverse individuals.

“These Late Eclipses”: Shakespeare and the Early Modern Sky presented by Stephannie Gearhart, Chair and Professor in the BGSU Department of English.

At an exciting and, to many, unsettling time in the history of science, what was an artist like William Shakespeare thinking about the solar system and humans’ place in it? This talk will consider how Shakespeare drew inspiration from the skies and contemporary scientific debates as he created works that continue to speak to us today.

Description: Join BG SONG and the LEAD 2010: Leadership and Service class for the upcoming Rock the Block event taking place on Saturday April 6, 2024! Check in starts at 9 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church and the event begins at 9:30 a.m. The Rock the Block event will focus on beautification and revitalization of neighborhoods located within Bowling Green, OH. Volunteers will be divided up into groups and assigned to complete homeowners projects.

No experience is required. Volunteer registrants are asked about their previous experience related to the specific tasks to help us assign volunteers. Additionally, you will be asked your T-shirt size (T-shirts will be provided).

After the completion of your project, volunteers are asked to return to Trinity United Methodist Church. There will be food served and you will be entered into a raffle!

Description: This Science Café event will feature Dr. Jari Willing, assistant professor of neural and cognitive sciences at BGSU. Jari will give a talk titled "Puberty and the Brain."

Adolescence, broadly defined as the transition from childhood to adulthood, is associated with numerous changes in the brain and behavior. This is also a period during which many psychiatric disorders tend to manifest. Emerging evidence suggests that within the adolescence period, the onset of puberty may be the critical catalyst for changes in the brain that rapidly alter behavior, making some more susceptible to psychiatric illness.

Description: In this course, we will “travel” the world to explore a variety of foods and cultures and will discuss the influence of culture, history, socioeconomic status, religion and environment on food selection, dietary intake and health status.

Students will become familiar with the needs and dietary patterns from people with diverse cultures. With further dietetic training, you will be ready to counsel and educate a diverse population.

Description: This class is designed to introduce students to the theories and methods that help us to better understand the past, explain the present and potentially predict the future of a wide range of international issues. The course has three main objectives. First, the course introduces and subsequently explores the concept of interdisciplinarity, its meaning, advantages and challenges. Second, the course introduces different methodologies that are regularly applied to collect, process and analyze data in International Studies. Third, students will develop their own research designs in a topic of their choice in which they apply a range of appropriate methods presented in this course.

Description: Looking for a safe and supportive space to prioritize your LGBTQ+ mental well-being? Look no further! Join our in-person wellness program centered on LGBTQ+ self-care and mental health. Engage in meaningful discussions with individuals who share your experiences and challenges. All programs will include crafts such as coloring, bracelet making and more! This program is free to all students.

This even will occur from 5-6 p.m. every other Tuesday at Jerome Market Place (expect April 9, which will be located in a location that is still being determined).

Description: If you are interested in learning how our universe can be reflected in forms of language, CHIN 1010 (Fall semester 2024) is for you. CHIN 1010 is designed for beginners who do not have or have little knowledge of the Chinese language. We will begin learning how Chinese characters, the foundation of Chinese language, are formed to reflect the universe, including our human figures, emotions, behaviors and our recognition of natural phenomena around us. We will also learn how to conduct daily communications by learning Chinese pronunciations. Our wonderful language teacher will assist you in establishing a solid foundation in the Chinese language. Additionally, we will integrate Chinese calligraphy into language learning. We will provide traditional calligraphy materials such as ink and rice paper. The Chinese Language and Culture Club will organize fabulous events and activities for you to experience some aspects of Chinese culture. 12. Fall course offering – ASIA 4700: Korean Culture and Language

Description: This course aims to enhance students’ understanding of Korean culture and language by examining key social, historical and cultural events and issues portrayed in Korean popular culture (K-Film, K-pop and K-Drama). Students will also learn to identify characteristics of Korean language on a basic level and enhance their communicative ability in the context of Korean culture. The course provides students with skills and knowledge to better understand and evaluate many important issues in contemporary Korea. By doing so, students will learn to reflect critically on various contemporary issues in and around Korea.

16. Chinese film viewing: CHINESE 4150 Chinese Cinema

Description: China has one of the largest film industries and film markets in the world. The course studies selected masterpieces developed at different historical periods, focusing on the masterpieces that internationally acclaimed Chinese directors released from the 1990s to the present. In addition to studying the aesthetics of Chinese cinema, the course offers a comprehensive understanding about social, political and cultural transformations in China as these transformations are closely entangled with the evolution of Chinese film genres and the film industry. The course covers a variety of genres, including silent film, black comedy, kung-fu, melodrama, neo-noir, thriller, dystopian and pseudo-documentary. The course is taught in English. All films selected in the course will include English subtitles.

Led by the CFE team and faculty facilitators, this workshop will provide you with an intentional, student-centered plan for the first two weeks of class. You must be able to participate in the entirety of the two-day workshop in order to register and participate in this event. Description: The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 Faculty Associate Program! Faculty Associates support the work of the CFE by designing and facilitating learning experiences and providing insight on CFE programming and projects. This position is open to full-time faculty and adjunct faculty at BGSU. The CFE is offering a total of 6 Faculty Associate positions next year, including a generative AI Faculty Associate Position being offered in collaboration with the Office of the Provost and a Graduate College Faculty Associate position offered in collaboration with the Graduate College. Faculty Associates who successfully meet the program requirements receive $5,000 for one academic year of service.
