Bowling Green Council of Teachers of Mathematics (BGCTM)
The Bowling Green Council of Teachers of Mathematics (BGCTM) is a student organization that promotes professional development for aspiring mathematics teachers.
BGCTM welcomes all Adolescent/Young Adult, Middle Childhood, and Inclusive Early Childhood Education majors. Guest speakers and various activities broaden students’ knowledge and understanding of how to teach and grow as educators. BGCTM establishes a way for students from common majors to interact and learn from one another. You can develop your passion for teaching by joining BGCTM!

Presentation Title: Once You See It, You Can’t Unsee It!
What comes to your mind when you think about scientific notation? difference of squares? circumference of a circle? More than likely a procedure or a formula. In this interactive session we are going to explore these topics in ways that bring them to life connecting to other mathematical ideas. Buckle up for a fun ride! You will leave seeing these ideas in ways you cannot unsee!

Presentation Title: Nudging Your Way Toward the Math Teacher You Imagined
During your time at BGSU, you have likely learned a lot about what it means to be a great mathematics teacher. As you think about your future classroom, you may be imagining the rich tasks you will use, the discussions you will facilitate, and the impact you hope to have on your students. But what does all of that actually look like during your first few years of teaching?
In this session, I will draw on my own experiences as a first-year teacher, along with the experiences of my former students and research participants, to explore what can happen when new teachers try to put everything they have learned into practice all at once. We will then consider small, intentional moves—or “nudges”—that can help you begin implementing ambitious mathematics instruction in manageable, bite-sized ways. The goal is not to do it all on day one, but to identify small places to start and continue building toward the mathematics teacher you want to become.
