Individual Microcredential Assistance Program (IMAP) at BGSU

As an approved IMAP training provider, BGSU will cover all related training expenses, to help qualified learners acquire new skills and earn a credential that can aid in advancing, changing, or beginning your career, or otherwise increasing a learner’s earning potential. Each free training is valued at $2,500 and there is no limit to the number of trainings an individual learner can complete.

Eligibility & Program Requirements

Eligibility:

  • You must be a resident of the State of Ohio.
  • High school students entering their junior or senior year should check whether they have access to a similar training through College Credit Plus before registering for IMAP training with BGSU.
  • Incarcerated individuals are eligible if they are scheduled for release within 12 months from the day the training begins.
  • Employees of BGSU or the State of Ohio are not eligible for IMAP assistance.
  • Employees of Ohio-based businesses are encouraged to have their employers seek funding through Ohio TechCred before pursuing IMAP funding.

Requirements at BGSU

  • IMAP trainings at BGSU are best suited for individuals with some manufacturing experience and a high school diploma or higher, but all eligible applicants will be considered. BGSU follows the State of Ohio’s eligibility criteria.
  • All IMAP trainings at BGSU are designed for beginner-level learners, but certain sessions may require basic prior knowledge (fundamentals of Microsoft Excel or basic algebra). Any needed skills will be listed within the applicable training on the IMAP Active Trainings webpage.
  • Because State of Ohio grant funding for IMAP is limited, BGSU ensures that each applicant and training selection are a good match. Applicants may be asked to complete a short 15-minute interview with a BGSU School of Engineering trainer. Applicants may also request a 15-minute interview.

Digital Badging

BGSU awards digital badges for IMAP trainings to help learners showcase their industry-recognized skills gained through each training.

Badge criterion follows a best practice learning taxonomy and reflects the level of learning achieved.

Demonstrates learning up to the level of applying and analyzing

Application

Demonstrates learning up to the level of evaluating, synthesizing, and/or creating

Enrollment Process

  •   1. Request – Learners submit interest via online form.
  •   2. Review – Trainers will review all requests for enrollment. A 15-minute personal interview with a trainer may be requested by the trainer or enrollee
  •   3. Acceptance – Confirmation and access instructions sent.
  •   4. Prepare – Learners ensure tech readiness before training.
