1. World Voice Day celebration
"Your Voice Matters" is the theme of this year's World Voice Day celebration on Wednesday, April 5. The mission of this day is to raise awareness of issues affecting the health of our voices. Our voices are such a vital part in our daily interactions, so let’s start taking care of our voices! Join us for free voice screenings and a short concert by student singers from the College of Musical Arts.
Concert: noon to 1 p.m.
Free voice screenings: 11 a.m. to noon and 1:15 to 4:30 p.m.
Both events will take place in the Multi-Purpose Room in the BTSU.

2. Forest bathing in one week
Join us on Doyt Hill, Tuesday, April 11, at 4:15 p.m.! Forest bathing is a way to relax, unwind and connect to nature. Recreation and Wellness Reiki level 1 and 2 certified instructor, Maria, will lead us in the ancient Japanese form of "eco-therapy" that offers an antidote to burnout and enables you to reconnect with yourself.

3. Environmental Action Group Career Night
Environmental Action Group is hosting a Career Night this week on Thursday, April 6. The event will be held in the BTSU Multipurpose Room from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. There will be time to network with the speakers who have a variety of sustainable and environmental careers that may be of interest. Then, there will be a presentation portion for each of them to speak about their education and the positions they have had.

4. Poker Walk and wellness event - April 5
Make time for self-care and a movement break. You deserve it! The wellness event will take place on Wednesday, April 5. Stop by any time between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Perry Field House Track Room.
Event Highlights:
- Poker Walk - Go the distance of your choice (half mile, one mile or more) and stop at the Poker Walk stations to collect your five-card poker hand. The top three individuals with the best poker hand win a prize and all who participate are entered into a raffle. No prior knowledge of poker is needed to participate.
- Pickleball, table tennis and cornhole
- PAWS Team therapy dogs – Relax and unwind with furry friends
- Mindfulness and self-care resources
- DIY flower pots
- Giveaways and raffle prizes – Smoothie blender, bike and free healthy snacks
- Free blood pressure screenings
The event is free for faculty, staff, students and community members.

5. Taylor Swift Trivia tonight at Pub 1910
Join us tonight from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. at Pub 1910 in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union for Taylor Swift Trivia! This game will be 'finish the lyric' of Taylor Swift songs. Have a chance to win $50 Falcon Dollars if you place first and $25 Falcon Dollars for the second-place team! This event will be first come, first served. 6. Shanklin Award for Research Excellence finalist presentations
The Charles E. Shanklin Award for Research Excellence was established by the Graduate Student Senate as a meritorious award to recognize excellence in original research by graduate students at Bowling Green State University. Mr. Charles E. Shanklin, a Bowling Green State University alumnus, generously contributed funds to Graduate Student Senate to further graduate research; thus, a special account for the Shanklin Award was established.
The finalists for this award were selected by a panel of 19 judges from multiple disciplines around campus based on the research being interdisciplinary, clarity, and quality. There are two finalists within each division presenting their research: Arts and Humanities, Mathematics and Sciences and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Join us on Wednesday, April 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. in BTSU 308 to hear more about the finalists' research they have been doing on campus! Presentation topics include an analysis of Jocelyn Schitt from Schitt's Creek, local government in Bowling Green, gender roles, fusogenic function, the 2021 German foreign aid package, and differential prey behavioral responses.
All faculty, staff, students (both undergraduate and graduate) and community members are invited to attend this event. You do not need to RSVP, but encourage you to express interest via the BGSU Calendar.

7. Let's Talk!
Let's Talk is a free and confidential service available to BGSU students. Students can meet for a brief, informal 15-minute consultation with BGSU Counseling Center staff that does not take the place of therapy. Let's Talk consultations are not appropriate for urgent concerns or mental health emergencies. During this consultation, BGSU clinicians will listen to your concerns and offer support, information and resources.

9. ITS service desk hours April 7–9

10. Presentation by the world's first hip-hop drummer Keith LeBlanc
Join Dr. Matthew Donahue from the Department of Popular Culture for a conversation with world-renowned drummer, solo artist and producer Keith LeBlanc on Wednesday, April 5, at 7 p.m. at Jerome Library's Pallister Conference Room (first floor). This talk is free and open to all.
Keith LeBlanc is the world’s first hip-hop drummer. When LeBlanc got his gig at Sugarhill Records in 1979, there was no such thing as a hip-hop drummer. His beats are some of the most copied in the world. He is more than just a session drummer, he is an accomplished solo artist and producer playing on some of the most influential sound recordings in hip-hop with the Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa and others. His writing, drumming and production skills have attracted the likes of Living Colour, Peter Gabriel, The Cure, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Seal, Tina Turner, Annie Lennox and many more. LeBlanc will be discussing his life in music.

11. Reflect on the semester, enjoy yoga, and energy healing reiki – free
Come participate in social activity and conversation surrounding end-of-year reflections on Friday, April 14, at the SRC Studio b. The yoga and reiki class will take place from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. with a well-being social taking place from 7:00 to 7:45 p.m.!
Join Group X instructors, Bryant and Maria, for this special class that includes a 15-minute upbeat vinyasa flow incorporating exercise and breathwork, followed by a 30-minute yin portion of the class with optional hands-on reiki assistance. This is the perfect balance of yin and yang, allowing the body to become energized and then balancing that with calm breathing and slow stretching.
Following the yoga/reiki class will be the well-being social. This includes tea, snacks and empowering conversations. You can come for the yoga/reiki class, well-being social – or both!

12. Queer Prom!
QTSU formally invites you to Queer Prom, a fun night filled with food, friends and chosen family! There will be drag performers and a few more surprises along the way. Located in Olscamp Hall 101 on Wednesday, April 5, from 7 to 11 p.m. This is a semi-formal event with a pastel theme, but there will not be an enforced dress code.

13. Speech and Q&A from founding member of the National Black Pro-Life Coalition, Catherine Davis
Join us in listening to Catherine Davis, who is the president and founder of the Restoration Project and founding member of the National Black Pro-Life Coalition. The virtual speech will be given at Central Hall room 104 on Wednesday, April 5, at 4:30 p.m. This will include a 20-minute speech and a 10-20 minute Q&A!

1. Earth Week next week and WYMO kickoff!
Starting Monday, April 10, Campus Sustainability will be hosting a week of fun events dedicated to our planet. Throughout campus, you will notice our Environmental Messages Tour, an educational signage self-guided walking tour.
April 10 is also the first date to begin donating to our When You Move Out, Don't Throw It Out (WYMO) program, which serves the Campus ReStore and more than 30 nonprofit organizations with your items you no longer want. We take everything; doesn't matter if it's opened or brand new, you can still donate to collection boxes in all the residence halls, the Union, Greek Townhouses and Campus Marketplaces!

2. ICS internship application
Are you a BGSU student looking for opportunities to put your academic research and writing skills into practice? Are you looking for meaningful work experience from the convenient location of BGSU’s campus? Would you like to do it for course credit?
Then consider applying to be an intern for BGSU’s own interdisciplinary, public humanities center. You can get valuable experience with event planning, marketing and public relations, graphic design, research, curricular development and more.

3. Register for ASIA 4700: Korean Culture and Language this fall
This course aims to enhance students’ understanding of Korean culture and language by examining key social, historical and cultural events and issues portrayed in Korean popular culture (K-Film, K-pop and K-Drama). Students will also learn to identify characteristics of
Korean language on a basic level and enhance communicative ability in the context of Korean culture. The course provides students with skills and knowledge to better understand and evaluate many important issues in contemporary Korea. By doing so, students will learn to reflect critically on various contemporary issues in and around Korea.
Note: No prerequisite is required before taking this course.

4. Survey for students with a disability
Help a BGSU student with their dissertation study! They are conducting research, with Dr. Judy May, to better understand the attitude toward retention and belonging in students with a disability.
This is an anonymous online survey, which lasts about 5-10 minutes. You are able to complete this survey anytime from your phone or computer. The information you provide will be private and not shared with anyone. They are just looking to learn more about students with a disability and their attitude toward retention and belonging at BGSU.
You must be 18 years or older to participate in the survey.

5. Research study participants needed!
BGSU undergraduate students (18+) are needed to participate in an online survey about the transition from high school to college and its impact on their mental health and well-being. This study focuses primarily on the mental health of first-year students, but all undergraduate students are eligible to participate.

6. Register for sustainability field course, SEES 4810 (available fall 2023)
Interested in learning about sustainability experientially? Enroll in SEES 4810: Reimagining Sustainability for this coming fall.
This course tackles environmental issues and immerses students in Northwest Ohio ecosystems. With at least seven field trips, transdisciplinary content and seminar-style discussions, students will gain insight into local environmental challenges. This transformative course is ideal for building ecological literacy and deepening your connection to nature. Leverage the fields of environmental education and the environmental humanities to connect to the world around you.

7. Have fun memories from summer camp? - Summer Camp Ethnography online course offered
POPC 4600 102W 42040 Summer Camp Ethnography – This Popular Culture class will teach students about the fundamental principles and methods of ethnographic research and writing through the lens of summer camp. Students in this course will develop their skills of observation and analysis by putting these principles and methods into practice. If possible, they will observe and document group rituals and ceremonies that are part of summer camps’ traditional activities, to learn observation and interviewing techniques. Each student will design and carry out an original research project documenting summer camp rituals and ceremonies, producing a final paper that uses ethnographic data to reveal and better understand these events and phenomena.
This class will be offered online during the second six-week session from June 26 to Aug. 4, taught by Dr. Montana Miller.

8. Multicultural graduation celebration TOMORROW!
This drop-in activity provides space for any multicultural graduate. Activities include decorating your cap with various cultural items of significance (flags, etc.) and more. The event will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, in the Multicultural and LGBTQ+ Resource Centers (BTSU 427).

Take ENG 6320: Online Graduate Writers Workshop (Poetry) during Summer Session I (May 15 - June 23).
Do you write poetry and want to take your practice to the next level? Maybe you have always wanted to try writing poetry but have never had the chance? Consider enrolling in ENG 6320 Graduate Writers Workshop.
This completely online course focuses on reading, writing and sharing. Participants will complete weekly readings and exercises, receive feedback on original work and contribute to their peers' creative processes through the workshop. The self-paced, asynchronous format of this course is perfect for hectic and unpredictable schedules. All levels of experience are welcome.
About the professor:
Frank ("Dan") Rzicznek's books of poetry are Settlers (Free Verse Editions/Parlor Press), Divination Machine (Free Verse Editions/Parlor Press) and Neck of the World, winner of the May Swenson Poetry Award from Utah State University Press. He is coeditor of The Rose Metal Press Field Guide to Prose Poetry: Contemporary Poets in Discussion and Practice (Rose Metal Press). The recipient of two Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Awards, his poems have appeared in Boston Review, The New Republic, Kenyon Review, Orion and elsewhere.

2. CFE workshop: Safe Zone training
The Safe Zone workshop promotes awareness of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer +) people. The workshop provides education concerning LGBTQ+ issues and seeks to improve the environment for LGBTQ+ people. This workshop helps to build a support network of allies for the BGSU LGBTQ+ community.

3. Call for nominations to ICS Executive Board
We are seeking nominations and self-nominations to serve on the Executive Board of ICS. For this cycle, we are particularly interested in nominations for those in the social sciences or natural sciences. If you are a faculty or staff member with a passion for interdisciplinary collaborations, community engagement and high-impact programming, please consider applying to be a board member. If you know someone who fits this description, please nominate them.
To nominate someone for the board, send an email to ics@bgsu.edu with the person’s name, email address, title and program/unit/department. We will ask all nominees to submit a statement of interest and relevant experience (500 words maximum) and a CV. The term of service is three years, beginning in fall 2024.
The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 7.

4. Call for applications for CFE Faculty Associates
Each year, the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) welcomes applications for three Faculty Associate positions. Faculty Associates partner with the CFE to serve as a resource and an active participant with other faculty, staff, administrators and graduate students to reach the strategic goals of the CFE. Associates will be expected to design and facilitate one Learning Community per semester and assist with the facilitation of CFE workshops on an as-needed basis. Faculty Associates are compensated for their work with the CFE.
