2. Celebrate our special needs community by being a buddy at the 2024 Night to Shine!

The Night to Shine annual event is done with the Tim Tebow Foundation. During this prom-like event, we celebrate our special needs community. Guests are treated like kings and queens for the night with a dinner and fun activities. It’s an opportunity for our guests to feel loved for who they are.

Buddy volunteers are their friend for the evening. We would love for you to participate in this one-of-a-kind experience. If you’re not interested in being a buddy, but would like to be involved, there are many other ways to volunteer. Please note: Volunteers must have a current background check. We’ll take care of that if you don’t have one.

If you have questions, please contact me at kmorga@bgsu.edu

  • Host: New Hope Vineyard Church
  • When: the evening of Feb. 9
  • Where: Terra State Community College in Fremont, Ohio
  • Mandatory training: Mid-January, location and time to be determined.

Volunteer to be a part of the Night to Shine.

3. CFP: Class Con 24 - Class consciousness, pop culture and pedagogy

Call for papers - Class Con 24 - Approaching Academia: A Conference on Class and Culture

Deadline extended to Jan. 1.

Inspired by Ray Browne, the founder of Popular Culture Studies at BGSU, this conference seeks to give “education a broader base and greater richness” through the exploration of why and how popular culture and class are interconnected. We hope to brainstorm, workshop, and develop a pedagogic approach to bringing class studies into the classroom while also giving a voice to the students most impacted by economic uncertainties.

The key areas of the conference include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Pedagogy and Class Studies
  • Class Representations in Popular Culture
  • Class Issues in Academia
  • Labor Unions in Contemporary Culture
  • Social Outreach and Activism

Interested parties and individuals are encouraged to submit their proposals via email by Jan. 1. No cost to submit. Free for both in-person and online attendance.

Explore more information about Class Con 24.
