2. Conversation with award-winning poet and BGSU alumnus Charles Fort

Join us for an insightful conversation with award-winning poet and BGSU alumnus Charles Fort from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Jerome Library Pallister Conference Room. Discover the secrets behind his poetic process, and learn why he chose to donate his works to the Center for Archival Collections at BGSU. Explore the intersection of creativity and preservation in this engaging event with a focus on his most published poem "We Did Not Fear the Father."

Fort is the author of six books of poetry and ten chapbooks. He received the Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, honoris causa, from Siena Heights University and Faculty Scholar Awards from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and Southern Connecticut State University.

The Office of Student Engagement and The C. Raymond Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement invites proposals from individuals committed to promoting leadership in a variety of functional areas. We welcome your submission for this event and invite you to join us to optimize your own programs and services in the company of others from the university.

This year the conference planning committee is hoping to highlight unique leadership experiences across campus and the community. Proposals should include a leadership theme along the lines of, but not limited to, values, relationship building, servant leadership or group dynamics.

5. Hoops Night ft. Taylor's After Party

Are you ready for it?

Join us as the BGSU Falcons hit the court for a ~bejeweled~ tip-off event followed by a Taylor-themed after-party that will have you singing until the final buzzer. The night kicks off with the Falcons taking center stage in a series of competitions and contests as we introduce the 2023-2024 season as the team enters a new ~era~.

Once we know the teams ~all too well~ watch as the court and chords collide for a Taylor-themed dance party full of Taylor hits, confetti showers, neon lights and friendship bracelets. Get there early because the first 500 attendees will receive a Frieda's version limited edition poster and a front-row seat. Dress code? Channel your inner Taylor by wearing an outfit from your favorite era for a chance to win merch!

This event is free of charge and designed for BGSU students, season ticket holders and fans of all ages.

In recognition of International Pronouns Day, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and LGBTQ+ Programs will be celebrating by giving out free pronouns stickers! Stop by the Union Tables from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.!

7. Join CCCC for a Halloween-themed movie night and costume contest

The CCCC program is hosting a Halloween-themed movie night and costume contest from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, in Olscamp 117. We would be screening the movie, The Addams Family and also have prizes for best Halloween costumes. It is also an avenue for international students to learn more about the Halloween celebration. There is going to be free popcorn to go with the fun and we look forward to seeing you there!

9. Study abroad in Florence, Italy!

Come to an information session about BGSU in Florence! Our partner, International Studies Institute in Florence (ISI-Florence), is a liberal arts and business program located in the heart of the Renaissance city. BGSU students receive full-credit transfer in a variety of courses, including history, art history, business, literature, languages, architecture and more. Come learn for yourself at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, the Fine Art Building Room 1024. Come out to Brewing Green from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, and enjoy a pint and a special from the Captain's Kitchen food truck! $1.00 for every pint and $1.00 for every special sold will be donated to the ASC Student Scholarship fund. 11. Clothesline Project in the Union Oval

In partnership with The Cocoon and for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Gender Violence Prevention and Education Services will display t-shirts from an ongoing collection that victims/survivors have created to voice their experience with sexual assault. Join us from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Union Oval to read through the experiences that members of the BGSU and BG community have faced.

CONTENT WARNING: This event will share the stories of those who have been impacted by violence. Please be aware of your own well-being and take time to process.

12. CWGE Research Seminar Series

13. In-person fire extinguisher training

Environmental Health and Safety is hosting a hands-on fire extinguisher training in conjunction with the Bowling Green Fire Department from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The session is open to all students, faculty and staff and will be held at parking lot 19 across from the airport.

16. Student Perspectives on AI: Panel discussion

How are students using genAI tools in the classroom and for their learning? What concerns do students have around the use of genAI in both their current studies and future work? Join the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and BGSU undergraduate and graduate students for Student Perspectives on AI: Panel discussion from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, via Zoom. Student panelists will discuss how they currently use or plan to use genAI and their recommendations for faculty and instructors navigating the use of genAI tools in the classroom.

2. Green Game Day needs your help at Saturday's football game!

Are you looking for service hours? Green Game Day gives you the chance to help reduce waste at home football games and enjoy the excitement of Falcon Football at the same time! There are four volunteer shifts available for Saturday and there are still volunteer spots remaining and you can sign up on BGSUServes. Chat it up with tailigate fans, help collect recycling, enjoy a tailgate with us, drive/ride in a golf cart; you can have a great time while getting service hours!

3. Do you have a project idea to make BGSU more sustainable?

The Student Green Initiatives Fund is always seeking student project proposals!

It’s our mission to help students with the goal of making BGSU a more sustainable institution by funding their projects. The fund is supported by student contributions. To date, close to $2 million of sustainability projects have been funded on campus, with an impact of reducing emissions and waste and supporting sustainable education.

5. Hiring - Graphic design & multimedia specialist for BGSU summer camps

The graphic design and multimedia specialist will manage and design projects for the pre-college outreach and academic enrichment programs including social media and other digital platforms. The position will work primarily remotely but could also include some on-campus time.

Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain summer camp webpages
  • Design and publish department newsletters and infographic reports
  • Coordinate other media projects as needed. Potential assignments could be, but are not limited to, the following: T-shirt design, direct mail campaigns, signage, special invitations and programs, brochures, camp materials and more.

7. Oktoberfest!

Come and visit Oktoberfest in the Student Union! There'll be food, music and crafts. BGSU German Club is hosting and the cost to attend is free for students, with a $5 advance charge for the buffet line and $7 at the door. Cost is $15 in advance for adults and $20 at the door.

Traditional German music will be playing with a live band and if you have lederhosen be sure to wear it! The event starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, so come on out for an evening of traditional German fun and vibes!

8. Participate in the Healthy Minds Survey - Chance to win Amazon gift card!

Undergraduate and graduate students have been randomly selected to receive the Healthy Minds Study Survey. This is a national online survey assessing student mental health and service utilization on college campuses.

By participating in this study, you will be eligible for one of 50 $20 Amazon gift cards and it will allow your voice to be heard on the topic of mental health and well-being. The confidential information provided to faculty and administration from this study reflects students’ day-to-day experiences on campus and provides insight into both your struggles and successes. This knowledge will be used to inform policy, practice and funding for programs and services on campus, thus bettering student life.

If you have been randomly selected, please participate in the Healthy Minds Study before it closes on Monday, Nov. 13, and make your voice heard!

11. Transfer t-shirt swap Oct. 20

You made the decision to transfer to BGSU. Now you can wear the decision with pride thanks to this transfer student t-shirt swap.

To participate, transfer students should bring a t-shirt from their previous institution between 10 a.m. and noon on Friday, Oct. 20, to the Office of Orientation & Transitions table outside of Falcon Outfitters in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union to *exchange it for a FREE BGSU t-shirt, provided by BGSU Athletics!

This event is part of National Transfer Student Week, which takes place every October and celebrates transfer students and the professionals who support them on their journeys. Events like this are hosted by the Office Orientation and Transitions so transfer students can connect with other transfer students who made BGSU a part of their education journey.

2. The CFE has an Instructor Video Recording Studio!

Do you want to enhance your courses using video content? Are you looking for a quiet space to record your videos? The Center for Faculty Excellence’s Instructor Video Recording Studio is a sound-proofed space for BGSU instructors to record educational videos for their courses. Located in Olscamp 109, this space offers the ability to record professional quality videos using an HD video camera, microphone, green screen, studio lighting kit and other equipment. The Instructor Recording Studio is a self-service studio and can be booked in advance. It's recommended that you request a training session with a CFE instructional designer to learn how to use the studio before booking the space.
