1. Summer 2021 Graduate course: Intro to Program Evaluation (EDFI 6600)

If you are looking for an elective course to take this summer, please consider EDFI 6600: Introduction to Program Evaluation. This will meet online for 8 weeks over the summer semester from June 28 - August 20. We will learn about the fundamentals of program evaluation.

Program Evaluation skills are highly sought after in the workplace (private and public sector employers) and very portable. Like much of what we learn in leadership studies, program evaluation is not specific to any one field, sector, or stakeholder group. You will learn about evaluation approaches and steps that could be useful in all settings and are especially useful for leaders to understand. Every high-functioning organization needs to invest in understanding when and how to improve programs/policies/procedures and one of the best tools for this work is program evaluation.

1. OMA Summer Book Club

Join the Office of Multicultural Affairs for our virtual summer book club experience. We will be reading and discussing, "The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together". Author Heather McGhee, is a leading voice in the national conversation on systemic racism and its impacts on individuals, communities, and societies. “The book is a personal journey and a powerful examination of the debilitating economic and social consequences of racism, for everyone”. In this book club we will use concepts from the book to ask difficult and uncomfortable questions about ourselves and the systems we uphold.

This book club is open to all BGSU staff and faculty. We will provide physical copies (to be picked up on the BG campus) of the book for the first 10 people to sign up. Capacity for this book club is 15 participants. It will run for approximately 10 weeks (1 week per chapter+) and start the week of June 14th. The Day and time of the book club will be decided once all participants have signed up.

If you have additional questions or would like to join the book club, please email: Shevonne Nelson Dillingham at sndill@BGSU.edu. Registration closes June 4 at 11 a.m. EST. Here is a link to the New York Times review of the book.

6. New Quizzes in Canvas coming soon!

“New Quizzes” is coming in July 2021. Instructors will have the option to continue to use the current assessment feature “Classic Quizzes” through December 2022 when the vendor will discontinue its use.

“New Quizzes” is an updated assessment engine that integrates with Canvas and replaces the current quizzes functionality (Classic Quizzes) in Canvas. “New Quizzes” will be enabled for instructors to begin to familiarize themselves with the tool. There are new question types such as Categorization, Ordering, and Hot Spots. Some other improvements you may notice include a more streamlined way to manage item banks and the ability to copy quizzes.

"Classic Quizzes" will be discontinued by the vendor in December 2022 at which time all assessment will need to be in "New Quizzes". We recommend that any new course assessments use "New Quizzes" beginning in July 2021.
