25. Foreign Language Placement Test-Link correction

Link Corrected from 3/29 Campus Update

Foreign Language Placement test

Become a global citizen & expand your world by learning a new language. Start this Summer or Fall! Did you know that speaking a second language can translate into thousands of dollars of extra money in your pocket, regardless of your career choice? (Forbes.com) If you are starting with a new language, you may register for the 1010 level without the placement test...and beginning level classes in CHINESE, FRENCH, GREEK, GERMAN, ITALIAN, JAPANESE, LATIN, RUSSIAN & SPANISH are all offered for Fall semester! (...and beginning ITAL is offered 100% online this Summer.)

If you have a high school background in a world language, don't delay! Language skills get rusty if you don't use them. Take the online Language Placement Test for Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish to see which level you need to get started.

If you already have some college credit for a language, you don't need to take the placement test to continue to the next level.

3. Information, Information Literacy, and Democracy

“Information literacy (IL) is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning.” (Association of College and Research Libraries, 2015).

IL concepts and skills apply to academic assignments, but how are we helping our students transfer those skills to everyday information gathering, particularly in the context of community engagement and preparing active, informed citizens in a democracy? In this workshop, faculty will integrate information literacy knowledge practices and dispositions into a new or existing course unit, assignment, learning activity, or program.
