4. WGSS Symposium Keynote: Drag Historian Dr. Lady J

Join the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Program and LGBTQ+ Programs for the 2021 WGSS Research Symposium Keynote from drag historian and educator, Dr. Lady J!

Founding Femmes: Reclaiming Cis and Trans Women's Place in Drag History Thursday, March 25, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Register at bgsu.edu/drladyj.

This talk explores the role of cis and trans women in drag from the founding of the art form through the development of its own counterculture in the '60s up to their current social media and television impact. Cis and trans women have been foundational and pivotal throughout drag history, often pulling off some of the most impactful work while being left in the trash can of times forgotten. This talk seeks to place women, cis and trans, back in their rightly deserved place of prominence in drag history and to decenter the gay cis male narrative that drag is owned and run largely by men.

6. Research Seminar: Personal and Collective Healing for Women of Color Using the Martial Arts

Join the Center for Women and Gender Equity on Monday, March 29 from 12-1 p.m. for a research seminar titled Personal and Collective Healing for Women of Color Using the Martial Arts: Preliminary Results of a Qualitative Dissertation

Trauma and cultural psychology have been critiqued for their failure to account for factors of relationship and place in trauma research, which may reinforce legacies of colonization and negatively affect mental health. Feminist conceptual frameworks and decolonizing research methods have been suggested as tools that can transform the discipline of psychological research and practice offering new possibilities for thinking through research and practices of trauma recovery. This presentation will outline preliminary findings as the researcher, Jacqueline Barco, a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Utah and martial arts practitioner for over 15 years, addresses these gaps in psychological trauma using feminist and decolonizing frameworks and individual narratives as data to explore the impact of colonization on women of color and how women of color make meaning of their own healing and recovery from trauma through participation in martial arts. The presentation will include a discussion of how the use of feminist and women of color research methodologies can be transformative in challenging the discipline to think and listen differently.

Email cwge@bgsu.edu to sign up.

8. Classroom/lab software request deadline for Summer/Fall 2021

The deadline for submitting software requests (for classrooms, computer labs and mobile device carts) for the 2021 Summer and Fall Semesters is April 30, 2021.

To request a software installation, please submit a Lab/Classroom Software Install Request form.

ITS will attempt to complete software installations needed for the first week of classes that are submitted after the deadline; however, these will be handled in the order received and may not be available for the start of the session/semester.

You may refer to the same webpage linked above for more information on software requests not required for the start of a semester/session.

Please direct any questions to Information Technology Services (ITS) at 419-372-0999 or ITSchat.bgsu.edu.
