1. Foodie Friday at The Teaching Kitchen!

Stop by the Teaching Kitchen today between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for Foodie Friday! Learn how to make your own dark chocolate avocado truffles. No registration required.

2. Get some Chipotle and help us out!

Stop out at the Bowling Green Chipotle from 5 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 4 and let your cashier know when purchasing that you're there in support of the BGSU Student Employee Board and we get a portion of the proceeds! The Student Employee Board uses our funds to create incentive-based programs, prizes, and helps with professional development!

Speaker biography: Ms. Tracy McGinley teaches Criminal Justice at BGSU Firelands. She is also a board member of the Cleveland Family Center for Missing Children and Adults, chair of the Erie County Human Trafficking Task Force, and board president for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Erie County.

She routinely does prevention programs at schools and has also conducted trainings for the Ohio Turnpike Commission, the Ohio Housing Authority, and with representatives of the Ohio Attorney General's Human Trafficking Initiative.

4. CDIS speech research

You are invited to participate in a study of speech production.

• The study involves:

• The study will include:

o One session at the university lasting no longer than 90 minutes.

• We are seeking adult participants at least 18 years old with no history of colorblindness to gain a better understanding of speech motor control and variability.

• Participation is voluntary. There is no cost to participate. You will receive one $15 Amazon gift card at the time of participation.

• This study is being conducted by Zoe Kriegel, M.S. CCC-SLP (zkriege@bgsu.edu) in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Bowling Green State University.

5. Spirit of BG Classified Staff November nominees

Congratulations to Maria Berger and Brooke McGraw for earning the November nominations for the Classified Staff Spirit of BG award. Read about their contributions.

Every qualified nominee is recognized and presented a certificate of appreciation and their nomination(s) are published each month. There are no limits on nominations throughout the year. Qualified nominations are placed in a drawing at the annual Classified Staff Awards ceremony to win one of 12 monetary prizes.

6. ArtsX: Here We Go!

Come to ArtsX on Saturday, December 4, from 5 to 9 p.m., to celebrate the arts in all its forms! The BGSU Fine Arts Center and Wolfe Center for the Arts will host musical, theatrical and dance performances; exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on arts activities; and holiday shopping for unique, handmade gifts. The 17th annual holiday event includes fun and entertaining activities for guests of all ages!

Start off the evening with a pre-event concert "Winter Dreams: A Holiday Celebration" with the BGSU Philharmonia, featuring dancers from the Toledo Ballet and the Black Swamp Fine Arts School at 4 p.m. in the Donnell Theatre. Repeat performance at 8 p.m.

No tickets required. Parking is free.

7. BGSU Preview Day event + parking lot closures

This Saturday, Dec. 4, the BGSU Office of Admissions will host our Preview Day event for prospective students from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Parking for this event will be in Lots 7, F and E, with overflow parking in Lots 3 and 4.

Lots 7, F and E will be CLOSED starting Friday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. until Saturday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. During that time, these lots will be reserved for Preview Day guests only.

Campus will be busy on Saturday as guests are taking campus tours, attending events in the Student Union and exploring open houses and building tours hosted around campus.

8. Donate to our winter clothing drive!

Join the ExceptiOnal Epsilon Omicron Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. as we collect winter clothing items for donation! We are in need of hats, gloves, mittens, new socks and undergarments for all genders! Visit us at the union tables today or contact a member of the chapter to donate!

9. Expand your world ... learn a second language!

Did you know that speaking a second language can help your job search? Communication in the workplace is important and many US companies are in need of bilingual employees. World Languages & Cultures offers instruction in nine languages every academic year. Become a global citizen and expand your WRLD by learning a second language. Start this spring!

If you have a high school background in a world language, don't delay! Language skills get rusty if you don't use them. Take the online Language Placement Test for Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish to see which level you need to get started.

If you are starting a new language, you may register for the 1010 level without the placement test. But, if you already have some college credit for a language, you don't need to take the placement test to continue to the next level.

11. Re-affirmation of accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC)

BGSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (or HLC) and has maintained its standing as such since 1916. Accreditation validates the quality of an institution and evaluates multiple aspects including its academic offerings, governance and administration, mission, finances and resources. BGSU’s re-affirmation of accreditation visit by the HLC has been set for October 17-18, 2022.

2. You're invited: Holiday party!

Are you an undergraduate student seeking an opportunity to educate peers on multicultural matters? Our application to become an Office of Multicultural Affairs Ambassador is now open!

The Office of Multicultural Affairs Ambassadors (OMAAs) assist the Office of Multicultural Affairs by providing peer education programs, events, and facilitations. The OMAAs are a group of students committed to social change and leadership. OMAAs work in the Office of Multicultural Affairs student resource centers as paraprofessional undergraduate student employees with such tasks as:

Developing, creating and executing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion based facilitations upon request
Outreach and consultation with other student organizations and university departments
Representing the Office of Multicultural Affairs at various campus events
Serving as administrative support for the Office of Multicultural Affairs

7. Last Friday Night Lights of the semester! Get service credit

Last chance of the semester to get some service credit at Friday Night Lights where you will turn off lights in buildings around campus with friends. This will limit the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere and help keep BG green.

10. Steel Drum Ensemble is back!

Are you interested in the music and culture of the Caribbean? In the BGSU Steel Drum Ensemble (MUSP 3320E/5160E), you will learn about the people and the culture of Trinidad and Tobago and the development of the steel drum while playing fun and exciting music from Trinidad, Jamaica, Latin America and the United States. Join us this spring semester Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:50 p.m.

11. Take a BGP German culture course this spring!

This spring, consider a German culture course! these are BGP-approved and taught in English.

"German Culture and Civilization" covers the social, intellectual & artistic life of German-speakers from medieval times to WW II. Study key figures and inventions on the history of Western civilization. Discover famous artists, composer, movements, their historical significance and their presence in contemporary popular culture. Study important thinkers like Marx, Nietzsche, Freud and their continued relevance.

12. UPA meeting: Presentation from the Cocoon!

Reminder! During our meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 7, we will be hearing from a representative from the Cocoon.

We will be having a McDonald's gift card drawing for those who participate in the meeting.

To be eligible for the gift card raffle, you must either ask two questions during the meeting or donate an item. Donations can be in the form of actual items (which can be brought to the meeting) or money paid to our treasurer. 1. Preparing your courses for spring 2022

This 1-hour Zoom session serves as a virtual space for us to discuss steps we should take to prepare our courses for the spring semester. Our discussion will be based on a checklist that can help guide our planning process. The checklist and Canvas site include helpful links to key BGSU resources for course design, delivery and pedagogy.

During the hour-long session, instructors will be encouraged to share their experiences, provide examples and discuss best practices as we talk through important aspects of communicating with students, organizing our Canvas course shells and preparing to teach via various methods of delivery.

2. Celebrate Faculty/Staff Night this Sunday at basketball game

On Sunday, Dec. 5, the Women's Basketball team would like to invite you to their home game vs. Valparaiso. We will be celebrating Faculty/Staff Night with fun prizes and recognitions. 3. Ann Reisner's retirement gathering

4. Instructor training: LockDown Browser & Respondus Monitor

This comprehensive training webinar is intended for instructors who plan to use LockDown Browser and/or Respondus Monitor with online exams. The session provides a detailed demonstration of both applications, including enhancements that make Respondus Monitor even more effective and easy to use.

5. Relocation expense policy

New policy 3341-6-58 allows the University, if needed for competitive hiring, to offer a payment of relocation expenses to a new appointee to a senior-level administrative position, faculty position or athletic coaching position if accepting the position requires the person to move their household more than fifty miles.

6. The Optimal Aging Institute is accepting small grant proposals

The Optimal Aging Institute (OAI) is accepting applications for their small grants awards ($500 to $1,000). Grant funds through the OAI are designed for original scholarship, seed money or pilot data. Applicants may be full-time faculty or graduate-level students with support from a full-time faculty member. For more information and the application, please visit the grant webpage.

7. Webinar - How to conquer academic writer's block

In this session, we will stream an online NCFDD presentation by Dra. Aurora Chang, and then BGSU members in attendance will engage in a discussion (led by BGSU faculty member Dr. Lisa Hanasono) about how to implement strategies for overcoming academic writer’s block.
