Sumar og Vetur - Animation - Not for Sale

Artist's Statement

“Sumar og vetur” translates from Icelandic to English as “summer and winter”. Sumar og Veturis an animated short which shows a change in seasons which parallels the evolution of the story’s lone, unnamed heroine. Summer is symbolic of her childhood innocence, as it is vibrant and carefree. Alternatively, winter is life after the loss of that innocence; cold and hardened. The woods are a mysterious, seemingly un-impenetrable force which hold the secrets of what caused the disappearance of her childhood. The heroine’s journey is an expression of dealing with and overcoming trauma. Many women are subject to abuse at a young age, and those traumatic experiences can lead survivors to feel as though their childhood innocence was stolen away from them. Sumar og Vetur holds a message to survivors of abuse: You have the strength to heal.
