3. BGSU welcomes new recycling and landfill removal service partner
Rumpke Waste and Recycling, located in Lima, Ohio, has been selected as the University’s new recycling and landfill removal service partner.
In March, Campus Operations published a Request for Proposals (RFP) with an emphasis on leadership and support in advancing the BGSU sustainability goal of increasing diversion rates through recycling and education. Companies were invited to present to the selection committee, which consisted of staff from Campus Operations, Campus Sustainability, Procurement and student leadership, with Rumpke ultimately winning the contract.
Rumpke is a proven thought leader in the recycling industry and will partner with BGSU to increase recycling offerings through expanded commodities that can be collected within the University’s current comingle program.
“Rumpke impressed us with their strong track record of collaboration with educational institutional partners,” said BGSU Sustainability Manager Nick Hennessy. “We look forward to what they can provide in the areas of sustainability education, outreach and training opportunities.”
The firm has established relationships with various manufacturers around the region, allowing our recycled materials to be reused quickly. They are currently in the process of building a new Material Recovery Facility (MRF) that will open in the summer of 2024. The new facility will be able to process 60-65 tons of recycled material per hour.
The transition to Rumpke will take place starting in late June, with all exterior containers being replaced before the beginning of the fall semester. Along with new exterior containers, new signage will appear across campus to inform the community regarding any changes to the recycling lineup.

The local destination travel show originally ran from 2012-2015 and then re-aired for several years. The new version debuts with a slightly different name, “Scenic Stops and Stories,” adding a storytelling component to the program. 8. Nominations open for 2023 20 Under 40
Each year since 1996, twenty young community leaders receive the prestigious 20 Under 40 award. A leadership recognition program, 20 Under 40 showcases dynamic leaders from northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan who are under the age of 40. The program recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in their careers and/or in the community.
In addition to honoring the recipients, the program is intended to help motivate young people throughout our area to become community leaders.
Each spring, we solicit nominations for potential candidates. All nominated individuals are asked to submit a profile. From these candidates, an independent panel of judges selects twenty leaders to receive the award at a fall recognition program. Judges consist of past honorees and community leaders. The nomination form is short and easy to complete.
Nominate a BGSU affiliated staff/faculty member, current student or alumni.
