1. "Electra" opens next week!

"Electra" by Sophocles and adapted by Frank McGuinness will open next Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Eva Marie Saint Theatre for performances from Feb. 16 through 19 and then also the following weekend of Feb. 23 to 25. Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Feb. 16-18 and 23-25, and there will be performances at 2 p.m. on Feb. 18, 19 and 25.

Remember, students who buy their tickets in advance get them for just $5! Purchase "Electra" tickets and view ticket prices.

Come support the theatre department and enjoy a night of entertainment - we hope to see you there!

Parking Lot "N" is free after 6 p.m. and on weekends.

2. Doggie drop-in visits with the PAWS Team

The BGSU PAWS Team will be visiting at the Student Recreation Center lounge on Feb. 16 and 23 from 4 to 5 p.m. Did you know you can lower your blood pressure and stress hormones by petting a dog? 3. Gymnastics hosts Kent State for Senior Night!

4. Nominations needed! Student Employment Appreciation

Student employees are the lifeblood of Bowling Green State University. They are integral to nearly every facet of University operations throughout a student’s career at BGSU, from a student’s first recruiting interaction through graduation and successful advancement into the community as a BGSU alum. Their hard work is seen everywhere across campus and is responsible for many of the day-to-day tasks involved in the vast majority of BGSU departments.

In conjunction with National Student Employment Week, April 10-14, BGSU Student Employment Services is taking the opportunity to formally recognize the contributions of BGSU students who work.

Nominate the outstanding student workers you know today. You can also recognize outstanding supervisors. The nomination period for all categories closes at 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 12.

5. Register for the Ethical Leadership Certificate!

The Ethical Leadership Certificate (ELC), facilitated by the Student Leadership Assistants from the C. Raymond Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement, is a program that helps you develop integrity and purpose as a leader. This certificate will help you develop self-awareness as an ethical and intentional leader by focusing on personal values, ethical decision-making and making change in your society. The ELC incorporates foundational elements of the Social Change Model of Leadership and builds upon the Marvin Center’s values of integrity and purpose to support students in their efforts to become more ethical and informed leaders in their communities. 7. Tonight FREE - Make jewelry, empowering conversations and yoga/reiki

Join Group X instructors Bryant and Maria for this special class that includes a 15-minute upbeat vinyasa flow incorporating exercise and breathwork, followed by 30-minute yin portion of the class with optional hands-on reiki assistance. This is the perfect balance of yin and yang, allowing the body to become energized and then balancing that with calm breathing and slow stretching. Following the yoga/reiki class will be the well-being social. This includes tea, snacks, a craft activity and empowering conversations. You can come for the yoga/reiki class, well-being social – or both!

1. A focus group and service opportunity for BGSU undergraduate students

Are you a student in need of a service hour?

BGSU’s Office of Academic Assessment is conducting a virtual focus group in order to gain perspective on the student experience outside of the classroom, including campus life and student involvement. The focus group will be done on Zoom, facilitated by BGSU undergraduate students!

Participants will not only be given a service hour, but they will also be entered in a raffle to win a $25 Amazon gift card!

The focus groups will be conducted at the following times:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 23, from 4 to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 3 to 4 p.m.

2. Bad Genetics improv comedy show

Come join Bad Gen in their second show of the semester! The show is tonight from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Education Building RM 115. The show is full of musical improv, long form improv and lots of fun! Hang out with us for a good laugh and get to know the team after the show :)

3. Get CPR Certified with MEDLIFE

MEDLIFE is hosting a CPR certification class on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Come earn an official AHA CPR certification! Non-MEDLIFE members are welcome, so bring your friends! 4. Interested in making lifelong friends while helping the community?

Omega Phi Alpha is a national service sorority. We are involved with the Multicultural Greek Council on campus. Our three cardinal principles are friendship, leadership and service. Our sorority completes over 20 hours of community service a semester. Joining OPhiA is a great way to build your resume, gain leadership skills and rules, and help your community. We are currently recruiting for the spring semester. 5. Join Bikes4Tikes

Bikes4Tikes is a sub-branch of Dance Marathon, where students at BGSU partake in a 62-mile bike ride around Bowling Green and surrounding areas on April 2.

Miracle Network Dance Marathon is a student-led, year-round philanthropic movement, uniting students across the United States and Canada in raising critical funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. When you join this empowering movement, you're equipped to change kids' health to change the future.

To join the Mortar Board you must be a senior in credit hours in the fall semester of 2023 and you must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher.

To apply for Mortar Board please write an essay on what Scholarship, Leadership and Service mean to you and send in a resume highlighting things such as your schooling, awards, various clubs and organizations that you are a part of, volunteer experience and any other things that you would like to let us know about! 7. Obama-Voyager Scholarship for Public Service - $50,000!

Are you a rising junior interested in working towards positive change with a desire to travel and expand your horizons? Are you interested in a career in public service (government, non-profits or the private sector - in a range of occupations from community organizing to social work and from entrepreneurship to the arts)? This scholarship includes up to $50,000 in financial aid and a $10,000 stipend and Airbnb credit for summer work-travel related to your public service, mentoring, networking and more!

8. They got me in lockup again: Mass incarceration in the U.S

Almost 2 million people are currently being held in the U.S criminal justice system, many of whom are innocent or still awaiting trial. This week's meeting of the "Finding Your Voice in Social Justice" Learning Community will examine the history of mass incarceration in the United States, addressing the prision-industrial-military complex that drives it. We will discuss critiques of mass incarceration and possible alternatives, including restorative justice.

9. Valentine's Day self-care kit exchange

Want to send a friend or peer a free gift for Valentine's Day? The Wellness Connection will be providing students the opportunity to gift a friend, peer or partner a Valentine's Day self-care kit! 1. GSS Regalia Award application due TONIGHT!

It is a significant commitment of resources for graduate students at BGSU to attend their commencement ceremony. In order to encourage more graduate students to walk in a BGSU commencement ceremony, the Graduate Student Senate has created the GSS Regalia Award to support graduate students who may need help covering the cost of renting regalia (for Doctoral students) or purchasing regalia (for Master’s students).

If you are planning to walk in this semester's graduation and have financial need, we highly encourage you to submit an application. Please submit your Regalia Award application form on the Graduate Student Senate Canvas page by 11:59 p.m. TONIGHT, Feb. 10. Your application will include a short essay that specifically describes the reasons why you are in need of assistance in covering the cost of renting/purchasing regalia and why your attendance at the graduation ceremony is important to you. If you do not have access to the Canvas page but believe you should, please contact gss@bgsu.edu PRIOR to the deadline. Submissions will only be accepted on Canvas.

2. Search Committee Training for faculty/staff - virtual

This training focuses on building inclusive searches and should be taken by anyone chairing or serving on a search committee. We will review definitions, information on identities, conflict of interests, expectations of the chair and committee members and ways search committees help advance overarching goals. An upcoming training will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
