4. Cybersecurity Awareness Month Tip #4: Use strong passwords

It can take an experienced hacker as little as 30 seconds to crack an 8-character password. Password length and complexity requirements help prevent your password from being guessed. The longer and more complex, the more time it takes for a computer/hacker to guess what it is. You should also use unique passwords for each different application and site you access.

We recommend passwords of at least 16 characters to better protect your account and the University. Learn more about passwords at BGSU on our ITS Passwords webpage. You can also use free services like “Have I Been Pwned” to check if a recent privacy breach has compromised your account and to determine if a password change is necessary.

For more information on cybersecurity tips and resources visit our Cybersecurity Awareness Month website for more information.

9. Women in the Third Reich: Gender and the Holocaust

Does gender matter when an entire people is targeted for extermination? Studying the Holocaust has provided some of the biggest intellectual challenges in the past half century. It requires a sophisticated interdisciplinary approach and raises many questions regarding philosophical debates about good and evil, theories of conformity, resistance, violence and authority, psychological theories of prejudice, trauma, memory and survival. It also raises questions about the limits of art, speech and representability itself in the face of the unrepresentable/unspeakable. In this course, we will consider some of these debates as we pay special attention to the identity marker of gender.

We will consider ongoing debates in gender theory and the Holocaust as we read historical texts and memoirs written by men and women, view films—Nazi propaganda as well as more recent feature films about the Holocaust. This course is taught in English and will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Combined class is offered as: GERM 4030-1001 (#16782), HIST 4803-1001 (#15146) or WS 4000-1002 (#16235). Questions? Contact Dr. Christina Guenther at cguenth@bgsu.edu.
