1. AROTC Falcon Fitness Challenge Week 1: 3-Point Challenge

Join us at the Student Recreation Center for Week 1 (Sept. 27 – Oct. 1) of the AROTC Falcon Fitness Challenge! How many 3-pointers can you make in 60 seconds?
• Participants will shoot 3-point shots from anywhere around the 3-point line. Top five men and women with the most 3-point shots win.
• To participate in Week One’s challenge, stop by the SRC during the drop-in times listed here:
Mondays: 5:30–7 p.m.
Tuesdays: 2-4 p.m.
Wednesdays: 4-5 p.m.
Thursdays: Noon–2 p.m.
Fridays: 1:30–3 p.m.

2. Banned Books Challenge in the Curriculum Resource Center

Banned Books Weeks is the last week in September. This is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read spotlighting current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools.

The Curriculum Resource Center will be holding a challenge for the BGSU community. Two frequently challenged children's books have been shredded and placed in jars. Stop by the CRC, on the second floor of the Jerome Library, and see if you can guess what banned books are in the jars. Prizes will be awarded for correct guesses. The challenge will run from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1.

3. Celebrate the Moon Festival (中秋节)with Chinese Language and Culture Club!

The Chinese Language and Culture Club will be hosting a celebration of the Moon Festival! All students and faculty members are welcome to participate in a time of crafts, conversation, learning, and fun. Food and mooncakes are provided! The event will be hosted in the Maurer Center room 104 on Thursday from 7:45-8:45 p.m. Any questions can be directed to Jenna Dunn at jendunn@bgsu.edu or Chen Jing Hang at jinghc@bgsu.edu.

4. Club Gymnastics First Practice!

Interested in joining club gymnastics? Our team is open to all genders and all skill levels, from very beginner to advanced. We are holding our first practice on Monday, Sept. 27 at 8:30 p.m. The team holds optional practices 3 times a week; Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, at the YMCA gymnastics facility in Perrysburg, and holds team bonding/ workout days on Wednesdays on campus. The first two weeks will be a trial period where you can try out the club before paying dues.

We will meet at the carpool circle at the Union to carpool to practices in Perrysburg.

7. Free Mindfulness Workshops

Focused Falcon Mindful Moments Workshop are free 4-week workshops offered to help manage stress, strengthen focus and attention, and increase memory. Additional key components of the workshop include learning mindfulness meditation, stress management techniques, methods to respond to difficult situations, and skills to live with intention and purpose. Introductory and advanced workshops are available

8. Help a Falcon in crisis! Training Opportunity

Help create a Community of Care at BGSU and make sure no Falcon struggles unnoticed and alone! Start the Conversation is a collaborative training offered by the Counseling Center and the Humanities Troupe from the Department of Theatre and Film. In the training, you will learn how to contribute to a community of care, how to identify the warning signs of people who may be struggling, and how to help (including suicide prevention strategies). Simple expressions of care are powerful, and you can make a difference in someone's life!

The next training is Friday, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., BTSU 316. Register and learn more about how you can help create a community of care at BGSU!

9. Help Spread Positivity on Campus!

Help the Wellness Connection and Student Wellness Network spread positive messages of hope for Mental Health Awareness Week! Notes containing hopeful statements surrounding mental health conditions can be dropped off at 214 Student Recreation Center from 10/4-10/8. These notes are meant to be a source of inspiration, hope, and community for your fellow Falcons and will be displayed on campus. 1. Graduate School Opportunities for Media and Communication Students

Interested in applying for graduate school? There are several degree options to pursue for Master and Doctoral students that could lead you to a professional career or even a career in academics. You can take courses across different areas of concentration or choose the same areas, we offer courses in media audiences and processes, interpersonal communication or critical media studies & rhetoric. The Ph.D. program is a 64 credit hour program while the full time in person Master’s program is a 30 credit hour program with a general media & communication track and an international-intercultural communication specialization.

3. Bullet Journaling with UAO!

Join University Activities Organization for Bullet Journaling! The semester is just getting started so why not pick up a new hobby? Find your own system of organization, to-dos, lists, and scheduling in your own personal style. We will provide pens, markers, stickers, and tape but only 120 journals and pens to take home. Be sure to come see us and hang out because numbers are limited! We will be in the Falcon's Nest in the BTSU on Thursday (9/23) starting at 6:30pm!

10. It's a Night at the Museum with UAO!

Join UAO on Sept. 27 as we bring the museum to you for a night of fun! We are partnering with the Imagination Station in Toledo, the Toledo Museum of Art, BGSU Libraries and the History Society. There will be a number of activities, including robots, arts, circuits and more! There will be a chance to win some tickets to the Imagination Station so you won't want to miss it! 11. Mid Autumn Party (Chinese Club)

For those of you who are interested in Chinese Culture, our Mid-Autumn Party from 7:45 to 8: 45 p.m. Thursday is a chance for all of us to celebrate the Moon Festival with good food, snacks, crafts, a short film, and a sense of belonging. Because this festival is centered around family and friends, it is open to the public. As such, we encourage everyone to bring friends and family interested in Chinese Culture.

12. Public Service? $30,000 Truman Scholarship

The Truman Scholarship is a nationally competitive $30,000 merit-based grant awarded to undergraduate students who wish financial support to attend graduate or professional school in preparation for careers in government/public service.

The Foundation seeks candidates who:
1.) have extensive records of public and community service,
2.) are committed to careers in government or elsewhere in public service,
3.) and have outstanding leadership potential and communication skills.

You must be a Junior to apply. A pre-application is due in the Honors College office (024 Founders Hall) before 5 p.m. Oct. 15. A faculty committee will review the materials and make recommendations for BGSU nominees. You do NOT have to be in the Honors College to be considered!

13. Student Neuroscience Associations First Meeting! Pizza and current BGSU research discussion!

What is Finances 101? It is a FREE life-sized game that teaches High School Students about the financial demands of the real world.

High School Students travel around a life-sized game board. Some of life’s choices lie in the draw of the cards, the roll of the dice or the spin of a wheel. Volunteers will help be hosts at game stations or direct schools/students when it is time to switch rooms and where to go next.

All events take place on the 2nd floor of the BGSU Student Union.

15. Want a STEM Research Career? Goldwater Scholarship

The Goldwater Scholarship Program was created to encourage outstanding students majoring in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering who intend to pursue research careers in these fields. This is a nationally competitive scholarship that provides support for tuition, room and board, books and fees up to a maximum of $7,500 annually. Students can apply in their sophomore and/or junior year only.

2. Free Cholesterol and Blood Glucose Screenings Sept. 22

BGSU, in partnership with Wood County Hospital, is offering free cholesterol and blood glucose screenings to faculty and staff. Along with the screening, you will have the opportunity to meet and speak with Dr. Lawrence Monger, the new medical director and internal medicine physician from the Falcon Health Center.

Appointments are available today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside Mylander Room 207 at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. No physician referral is required. All screenings are by appointment only and spots will be limited. An 8-hour fast prior to screening is recommended for the most accurate results.

Being aware of cholesterol and blood glucose levels can be one of the first steps to improving and maintaining a healthy heart and body. We encourage all faculty and staff to take advantage of these free screenings being offered by the Wood County Hospital.
