1. Canvas New Quizzes Now Available

“New Quizzes” is an updated assessment engine that integrates with Canvas and replaces the current quizzes functionality (Classic Quizzes) in Canvas. “New Quizzes” will be enabled for instructors to begin to familiarize themselves with the tool. There are new question types such as Categorization, Ordering, and Hot Spots. Some other improvements you may notice include a more streamlined way to manage item banks and the ability to copy quizzes.

Instructors will have the option to continue to use the current assessment feature “Classic Quizzes” through December 2022 when the vendor will discontinue its use. Instructors will be prompted to choose between “Classic Quizzes” and “New Quizzes” when building a quiz in Canvas. It is recommend that any new course assessments use “New Quizzes” beginning in July. Here is a video demonstrating the “Classic Quizzes” and “New Quizzes” selection options.

Watch the New Quizzes Overview tutorial to learn more about this feature.

The Center for Faculty Excellence is offering workshops this summer. Register for the upcoming workshops.

2. Creating Engaging Microlearning Videos Workshop

BGSU faculty had to quickly transition to remote learning over the past year. While transitioning, many faculty have decided to implement videos within their courses. Often times, instructors may find that participation is low in synchronous lectures and are looking to find more efficient ways to engage students in their subject matter.

In this workshop, instructors will be able to define what microlearning videos are and the benefits of producing this type of video, discuss the steps and best practices involved in creating microlearning videos and be able to determine what platform is best to host videos while keeping in mind best practices for accessibility.

Register for a Creating Engaging Microlearning Videos workshop being offered by the Center for Faculty Excellence.
