Social Justice Learning Community
Are you interested in social justice and community activism?
This non-residential learning community will help you connect your classes with social issues, meet fellow student-activists, and work with BGSU faculty and community leaders. Activities in this community will empower you to turn values into action and to transform your communities for the better.
Members of non-residential learning communities receive the benefits of belonging to a learning community without living in the same residence hall. The FYVISJ Learning Community is open to all students (including new incoming first-year and transfer students) and there is NO COST to join the community. You may also join if you are a member of another learning community, but we do ask that if you join our LC you commit to engaging in all required activities.

In the Finding Your Voice in Social Justice Learning Community, you will learn about activating social change from university and community leaders and organizers. We will introduce you to campus resources and help you foster connections with other students, faculty, BGSU leaders, and community activists.
Through these efforts, we hope to create bridges between home and campus communities; build connections amongst students; and connect students to resources available in BGSU. We believe better connected students will not only be more successful, but they will also be more engaged citizens promoting the public good.
The Social Justice learning community is offered through the School of Cultural and Critical Studies.

RESC 2000J
This is a one-credit course specifically for members of the Finding Your Voice in Social Justice Learning Community, with themes chosen by students each semester. The class meets weekly and provides a time and place for us to come together as a group to discuss mutual goals and help with individual ones. Previous in-class opportunities include a common read and getting to hear from community members working on social justice issues.
Community Spotlight
In 2023, the Finding Your Voice in Social Justice Learning Community took a trip to New York City. On the trip, students were able to examine the intersection of social justice with a variety of issues, including LGBTQ+ rights, housing, and the criminal justice system. Following the trip, the community collaborated with the University Libraries Exhibits Committee to display an exhibit in Jerome Library, featuring photos from the trip as well as QR codes which visitors could scan to hear members of the learning community talk about the work they are also doing on campus.
Live and Learn with Students who share your passion!
Join one of our residential Learning Communities and take advantage of unique opportunities designed to help you succeed in your personal, professional and academic lives. These communities are comprised of students who share a major or common interest and have a block of rooms inside a residence hall.
