In Brief
Weinberger receives an award
Dr. Margaret Weinberger, teaching professor and director of undergraduate studies in the Department of Sociology, recently received the Miguel Ornelas Award during the BGSU 2021 Latino/a/x Issues Conference.

Through her work at BGSU, Weinberger has embodied the spirit of the award, making a significant difference in the lives of her students, colleagues, friends and community members through her continued commitment to education, outreach and social justice.

The award is given in honor of Dr. Miguel Ornelas, a former Human Relations Commission member and Director of Affirmative Action at BGSU, who also served as an advocate for issues of diversity, as head of the Ohio Hispanic Institute of Opportunity and as a member of the BGSU Graduate Student Senate, Third World Graduate Association, and La Union de Estudiantes Latinos.
Calling on candidates for Commencement stories
The Office of Marketing and Brand Strategy is seeking candidates for stories to highlight around Spring commencement. If faculty or staff have an undergraduate or graduate student in mind who is graduating this Spring with an interesting job or internship lined up after graduation or a compelling personal story, we'd like to know. Please send story ideas to Bob Cunningham, content strategist, at cunnrob@bgsu.edu by 5 p.m. Friday, April 2.
The Journal: Nature Conservancy – Irwin Prairie
Protecting the historic Irwin Wet Prairie of the Oak Openings region has been the goal of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Toledo Metroparks and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for more than 40 years. Recently, TNC broke ground on the Sandhill Crane Wetlands project, a 280-acre parcel in the area. Alexis Sakas, natural infrastructure director of TNC Ohio, talks about the project and its significance. Watch the episode online. The Journal airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on WBGU-PBS or via live stream at wbgu.org. Check your local channel listing.
