1. Free cooking class compliments of WBGU-PBS

WBGU-PBS is offering BGSU staff, students and alumni the opportunity to take part in a free online cooking class compliments of Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street. No (apron) strings attached! If you’re a foodie who loves cooking or a novice looking to brush up on your skills, Milk Street has a class for you! Choose from live-streamed or self-paced classes. (Does not include workshops or intensives.) Take the online classes using code: MILKSTREETTV. Then start cooking!

3. Join us for Asian Studies Forum

Dr. Shaojun Bai, professor of business, Xian International Study University, China, will share his expert analysis and insights about the Chinese entrepreneurship and political environment focused on development of Chinese advanced manufacturing enterprises.

Dr. Man Zhang, professor in the BGSU Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business and Asian Studies Advisory Committee member, will moderate the Q&A following the lecture. This event will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, in BTSU 208. The event is free and open to the public.

4. Looking for volunteer hours?

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County is hosting their annual AfterBurn event this year and are seeking volunteers to help. The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, at the Wood County Fairgrounds. If you are interested in being a volunteer for this event, please register via BGSUServes or on the AfterBurn 2023 Volunteer website. You are also more than welcome to invite friends, family, and peers to help volunteer as well. We would love to have you!

5. Managing Anxious Thoughts and Emotions

Managing Anxious Thoughts and Emotions will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, and Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Student Rec Center Classroom and virtually.

Well-Being Series: Free 60-minute sessions on mental well-being topics including self-care, managing anxious thoughts and emotions, managing holiday and winter stress, caring for the caregiver and recovering from burnout.

6. Passionate about mental health? Want to become a leader?

The National Alliance on Mental Illness chapter at BGSU is having their first meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Education 205.

The organization is looking for three executive roles to help lead their journey to promote mental health advocacy and erase the stigma surrounding mental health. Come to this meeting if you are interested in becoming a Vice President, Secretary or Social Media Chair! These roles would look amazing on a CV or resume. President and Treasurer roles will open at the end of the spring semester. No experience is required! All are welcome to come to this meeting. Leadership roles are open to undergraduate and graduate students.

8. Share your experiences at the Embracing Global Engagement Conference

The Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURS) invites presentation proposals from undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines. Oral, poster and photo/video presentations will be accepted.

Showcase your work. Build your resume. Inspire other students to go abroad or study global, international or intercultural issues.

This is an excellent opportunity for students who have participated in:

  • Internships, co-ops or practica while studying abroad
  • Research, scholarly or creative activities while studying abroad
  • International public policy or service-learning projects
  • Research, scholarly or creative projects as international students at BGSU
  • Cultural experiences (e.g., the Navajo Reservation Trip)
  • On-campus research/scholarly/creative projects with global/international/intercultural perspectives

9. Spirit of BG - Classified Staff

The Classified Staff Council's Spirit of BG Award Committee is pleased to accept September and/or October nominations for the Spirit of BG - CSC Award. Every qualified nominee will be recognized and presented a certificate of appreciation and their nomination(s) published in Campus Updates each month. There are no limits on nominations throughout the year. Qualified nominations submitted from May through the following April will be placed in a drawing at the Annual Classified Staff Awards Ceremony in May and/or June to win one of 12 monetary prizes.

10. Volunteer for the annual Falcon BEST Robotics Competition

Earn volunteer hours for volunteering at the annual Falcon BEST Robotics Competition from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4!

Bowling Green State University hosts the only BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) robotics competition in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. Over the course of nine weeks, high school student-led teams design a remote-controlled robot, ultimately competing against one another at Falcon BEST. Teams are also judged on their marketing presentation, project engineering notebook, team entrepreneurship interview, robot modeling and video and website design.

We need your help! Robotics expertise not required. Volunteers receive a complimentary lunch and free t-shirt. Full day or session time slots are available. Mentor and judge volunteer opportunities include:

  • General Volunteer
  • Game Referees
  • Marketing Judge
  • Entrepreneurship – Exhibit & Interview
  • Virtual Judge (Critical Design Review, Video, Website, T-Shirt & Notebook) equivalent to 12 hrs

What the world needs now are people with language and culture skills. Join us from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. this Thursday, Sept. 28, in the Shatzel Hall Foyer (2nd floor). Need assistance with food? The Dean of Students is here to help. We offer two programs that can help you with that. Learn more about the programs. 4. Nonreligious? Cool, come on by for the first BGSU SSA meeting

The BGSU Secular Student Alliance invites all to come to its first meeting tomorrow from 6 to 7 p.m. in Central Hall 110. The BGSU SSA seeks to provide a safe space and community for all nonreligious students here on campus, be they spiritual and nonreligious to atheist. As well as promote a better understanding and acceptance of those who choose to live a secular life in a majority Christian nation.

Currently, we are conducting a study that examines specific facets of health behavior in men. Participation is a relatively low burden, including a one-time online survey that will take about 30 minutes, and responses to the survey are completely confidential. 1. CFE workshop: Getting Started with Canvas New Quizzes

Join the CFE in one of their virtual workshops on creating New Quizzes in Canvas. In this workshop, you will learn how to identify question types, explore what students see when taking quizzes, moderate exams for accessibility and create New Quiz question banks.

2. CFE workshop: Using Canvas Studio Software

Are you looking for ways to create interactive videos to engage students in discussion and assessment? Join the CFE-hosted workshop, “Using Canvas Studio Software to Create Interactive Studio Software,” with Holly Barber from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, via Zoom. Canvas Studio is a screen capture tool that allows you to create engaging videos right within Canvas. The Studio interface allows for in-video commenting and low-stakes quizzing.

3. Duo Two Factor Authentication protection coming to Curriculog Sept. 28

Effective Thursday, Sept. 28, Curriculog (BGSU’s curriculum management software) users will be required to authenticate via Duo Two Factor Authentication prior to accessing the tool. Security breaches at BGSU can, have and will happen; this cannot always be prevented. Adding Duo protection to Curriculog is another way to provide increased account security and protect your personal data.

4. Have questions on SAAC reports? Attend the CFE's SAAC workshop

Are you completing a SAAC report? Join this workshop offered by the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and the Office of Academic Assessment on how to complete SAAC reports. This virtual session will review the SAAC reporting process, including the assessment plan and reporting cycle, short-form assessment reports, long-form assessment reports and rubrics. During this session, we also will discuss best practices and lessons learned from the SAAC reporting process. These workshops will be held online via Zoom. The workshops are scheduled for the following dates and times:
