1. AI in action: Shaping the future of technology and business

Equipping the modern-day workforce with technology is an evolving challenge. The continuous advancements in devices, collaboration and productivity tools require companies to remain ahead of the innovation curve.

Join Mike McDaniel (president of DXC Modern Workplace) and Jeff Monaco (vice president of Modern Workplace) as they delve into DXC’s strategic investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AR/VR and learn about real world applications for AI!

This event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 20, in Schmeltz Atrium, Maurer Center. Register for A.I. in Action.

2. BGSU Marine Lab 60th anniversary

This coming year marks the 60th anniversary of the "Cynthia Collin Stong Marine Lab" at BGSU! We would like to honor the occasion and the accomplishments of our alumni with a special celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, in Olscamp Hall 101 to coincide with Homecoming Weekend.

The afternoon alumni panel discussions are open to all current BGSU students, faculty and staff. Each panel will be made up of several cohorts of Marine Lab alumni. They will discuss their careers, the influence of the Marine Lab on their lives and share interesting stories. At 4 p.m. there will be a dedication ceremony for the "Arthur J. Howell Reef System" with the Howell family. Following the symposium, we invite you to join us at 5 p.m. in the "Cynthia Collin Stong Marine Lab" (209 LSC) in the Life Sciences Building for an open house.

On Saturday, you may visit the Marine Lab from 9 a.m. to noon for activities with our current students.

3. CHANGE 2023 Thought Leader Conference

You’re invited to CHANGE 2023 on Sept. 21-22! Join a global and local convergence of practitioners, leaders, educators, activists and scholars committed to the power of collaborative change approaches that transform whole organizations, revitalize communities and develop human potential.

4. Correction - Screen-Play: Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Screen-Play will present two informal stage readings of contemporary plays: Long Distance by Seraiah Proctor and The Goons by Sophia Encina. The readings will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, in Olscamp 117. The event will also feature a Q&A session with the authors, the audience and the readings that consider the authors’ aesthetic vision and choices about story structure, characterization, tone and dialogue, as well as the project’s potential translation into production. It is free and open to the public.

5. From awareness to action: Join us at the Hunger Dialogues Sept. 8 and 9

The Ohio Hunger Dialogues is a state-wide conference focused on the issues of hunger in the local and global communities. Open to the general public, this dynamic dialogue seeks to engage attendees in conversations around the systematic issues of hunger and food insecurity in Ohio communities.

For Friday, Sept. 8, this day will focus on research, evaluation, professional practice and policy with an emphasis on our faculty, staff and community audiences.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, we will create spaces for students, activists and community-based practitioners to share best practices, discuss program examples and create ideas. Students who are interested should email Dr. Hamady at carrieh@bgsu.edu. Please include the days you want to attend and any dietary restrictions.

6. How to put yourself first

Well-Being Series: Free 60-minute sessions on mental well-being topics including self-care, managing anxious thoughts and emotions, managing holiday and winter stress, caring for the caregiver and recovering from burnout. Register for your well-being session today!

Sessions will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, and noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Student Recreation Center classroom and virtual.

7. Mental Health First Aid - Sept. 15

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adults ages 18 and over. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy, providing an action plan that teaches people to identify and address a potential mental health or substance use challenge safely and responsibly. Register for Mental Health First Aid training.

Trainings will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Room 315.

8. Pro-Life political workshop

Learn about grassroots organizing, lobbying and election work with Jordan Moorman of Students for Life! Discussing the Ohio abortion amendment, heartbeat bills and life at conception bills. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided by SFLA.

4. Falcons After Dark: Spirit Night BG Bingo

Join us for a Falcons After Dark: Spirit Night BG Bingo at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, in the BTSU Multipurpose Room to celebrate the first home Falcon Football game of the season! There will be 10 rounds with callers from multiple BGSU athletics teams, as well as a nacho bar and drinks. 5. First Environmental Action group meeting tonight

The Environmental Action Group (EAG) is having our first meeting of the semester at 8 p.m. tonight, Sept. 7, in Central Hall 1007! If you are interested in environmental issues, sustainability and making a difference, please feel free to come see what we're all about. EAG is a great way to meet other students that are passionate in making a positive impact on the planet, learn about what BGSU already does to be sustainable and get involved in projects that continue to help our campus be leaders in sustainability. 7. Peer education training coming up

Are you passionate about health and wellness? Do you want to promote topics of health and wellness to the BGSU community? Do you want to educate others on topics of stress reduction, mindfulness, mental health, self-care, sleep, nutrition, sexual health or alcohol and other drugs? If you answered yes to any of the questions, becoming a Wellness Ambassador may be for you!

The Wellness Connection is offering a weekend training for students to become BGSU Wellness Ambassadors. Training will be offered from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, in the Student Recreation Center Conference Room. You must attend both dates and times to become a Wellness Ambassador.

8. Resident student overflow parking changes

Due to an increase in available parking spaces in Lot 12, beginning Sept. 11, parking lot 18 will no longer be used as resident student overflow parking. All resident students with vehicles on campus will need to park in Lots 12, 15 or 3 beginning on Sept. 11. Thank you for your cooperation. 9. Self-care that works!

Join us from 5:00 to 6:30 on Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the Jerome Library Market for the Sustainable and Personalized Self-Care Program!

Just like our academic school supplies, we need a variety of mental health “school supplies” to succeed in college. Join other students in this welcoming and non-judgmental space, fostering open and honest conversations on the challenges and successes of starting college. Sustainable and Personalized Self-Care will be from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the Jerome Library Market. This program is free to all students.

Join the CFE-hosted event, "Write On-Site: A Special Session to Boost Our Writing and Research Productivity," with Dr. Lisa Hanasono from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Sept. 28, in the Jerome Library Collab Lab. This Write On-Site session is designed to boost BGSU academics’ research productivity while providing extra layers of accountability, support and connection. Join the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and the Schmidthorst College of Business (SCoB) Committee to Advance Teaching and Learning (CATL) for their upcoming Teaching and Learning Spotlight on Learning Outcomes. This virtual session, facilitated by Dr. Chelsea Chandler, the director for the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE), and Dr. Jessica Turos, the associate director of the Office of Academic Assessment (OAA), will discuss how to create effective learning outcomes and communicate learning expectations to students. This session will take place from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, via Zoom.
