1. CFE Workshop: Safe Zone Training

The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) will be hosting a Safe Zone Training workshop. This workshop promotes awareness of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer +) people. The workshop provides education concerning LGBTQ+ issues and seeks to improve the environment for LGBTQ+ people. This workshop helps to build a support network of allies for the BGSU LGBTQ+ community. Participants who complete the program will receive a program completion badge.

2. Epsilon Pi Tau - Alpha Gamma Chapter Spring 2023 Food Drive

The 2nd Annual Epsilon Pi Tau - Alpha Gamma Chapter Spring Food Drive is collecting non-perishable items through Friday, April 28, in boxes located at the Technology Building and Kokosing Hall. This effort is in honor and memory of Dr. Dick Horton, TAAE faculty member and Trustee Emeritus of Epsilon Pi Tau (EPT) – Alpha Gamma chapter. Donations will be distributed to the Falcon Food Pantry and the Brown Bag Food Project.

Epsilon Pi Tau is the leading international honor society for technology. Epsilon Pi Tau recognizes academic excellence of students in fields devoted to the study of technology and the preparation of practitioners for the technology professions. EPT also extends the honor of membership and advancement activities to outstanding practitioners in the technology professions, scholars with exemplary research interests in technology in society and/or persons who have significantly supported or advanced technology professions.

3. Finalist for Vice President for Research presentation

On Wednesday, April 26, Dr. Donald R. Peterson, finalist for the Vice President for Research, will be giving a presentation from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theatre Room 206. Their presentation will include a Q&A session and will be livestreamed. Dr. Peterson’s CV and the livestream can be accessed at the Office of the Provost's website under Leadership Searches.

4. History Awards and farewell reception for Dr. Benjamin Greene

The Department of History will be honoring Dr. Benjamin Greene in a farewell reception after our annual award celebration held Tuesday, April 25, in BTSU 201. The award celebration will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the reception to follow at 2:30 p.m.

Dr. Greene will be retiring at the end of the spring semester. Please join us in wishing him all the best as he embarks on his new adventure.

We all know when someone goes the extra mile to help; however, this person often goes about their day with little or no fanfare to acknowledge their "good works". 6. Program announced for 2023 CFE Teaching & Learning Summit!

The program of presentations, panel discussions, workshops and other sessions has been announced for the upcoming 2023 CFE Teaching & Learning Summit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10. The theme for this year’s summit is Teaching for the Public Good. Sessions will explore the various roles in teaching for the public good from the perspectives of four pillars: Pedagogical Innovation, Equity & Access, Student Success and Belonging and Lessons in Teaching & Learning. Faculty, instructors, graduate students and staff from across the University will be presenting on topics related to these pillars. The 2023 Teaching & Learning Summit program is available on the CFE website.

The Summit is free and open to BGSU faculty, instructors, staff and students. A boxed lunch will be provided to all participants who register before April 26. Register for the 2023 CFE Teaching & Learning Summit.

1. Love music? Take POPC 2800 Introduction to Popular Music online.

POPC 2800 101W 41896 will be offered online during the second six-week session from June 26 to Aug. 4. This course will explore the relationship between music and listening-viewing audience; musical styles, trends in popular music, popular performers and entertainers and what they reveal about popular culture; appropriate music listening. 1. CFE Teaching & Learning Certificate program

The BGSU Teaching & Learning Certificate program, administered by the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE), is open to all BGSU faculty/instructors, graduate students, administrative and classified staff. The program provides opportunities to interact with colleagues across campus and to explore current, innovative and effective teaching strategies that support student success.

If you have participated in five CFE workshops this academic year, you may be eligible to receive the 2022-2023 Teaching & Learning Certificate. Certificate requirement information is available on our website.

In order to apply for the Teaching & Learning Certificate, you must complete the 2022-2023 BGSU Teaching & Learning Certificate Tracking Form.

Participants who submit their completed tracking forms before May 1 will be honored at the 2023 Teaching and Learning Summit on Wednesday, May 10.

2. CFE virtual workshop: BGP assessment discussion

The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) will be hosting two virtual discussions about the BGP assessment process. All Bowling Green Perspective (BGP) courses have approved learning outcomes that are to be assessed at the end of the semester. This virtual session will discuss the BGP learning outcomes assessment process, show you how to import your assessment and learning outcomes rubric from the BGP shell and demonstrate how to complete the assessment in your active Canvas course. Be sure to review your BGP Course Review Proposal and the assessment plan before attending this session.

  • Discuss the BGP learning outcomes assessment process
  • Identify the process for importing a BGP assessment template into a course
  • Identify the process for submitting BGP data

3. Connecting with Generation X parents and Generation Z students: April 27 presentation

Jeff Kallay, senior VP of enrollment consulting for Echo Delta will be on campus Thursday, April 27, to present on broader generational theory repeating in America and focus on understanding today’s traditional age college bound/enrolled audience from Generation Z students and their co-purchasing Generation X parents.

Discussion items will include recent research and the state of college enrollment. Jeff will introduce and provide insight on the emerging next generation that will be searching for and enrolling in colleges in the years to come.

The presentation will take place at 2 p.m. in the BTSU Theater (Room 206) and is open to faculty and staff.
