2. Falcon Club Spring Sports Luncheon

Falcon Club and the BG Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their Spring Sports Luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, at Stone Ridge Golf Club. Head coaches and student-athletes will share about their upcoming seasons. Admission is $15 per person and includes lunch and drinks. RSVP for the Falcon Club Spring Sports Luncheon.

3. BGSU wireless network maintenance is scheduled for Feb. 15 - Connectivity disruptions expected

Information Technology Services (ITS) will perform maintenance to the BGSU wireless network on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 12:01 to 2:00 a.m. During this timeframe, users can expect several 10-to-15 minute wireless network outages for the entire campus.

4. BGSU phone maintenance and service interruptions on Feb. 9

Information Technology Services (ITS) will perform maintenance to the BGSU telephone system on Thursday, Feb. 9, that will impact service to incoming calls from off-campus to on-campus numbers in the following ranges: 419-372-3000 to 419-372-6499.

Between 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., off-campus calls to these numbers may not reach BGSU and the caller may hear an error message from their phone provider. Service will return to normal once the maintenance is complete.

5. System outages announced for Feb. 10

The following systems will experience outages on Friday, Feb. 10, from 12:05 to 6:00 a.m. in order to complete required system maintenance. The systems that will be affected are:

  • OnBase document imaging system.
  • The Event Calendar, used by the BGSU Event Planning and Reservations Office.
  • Lab Printing – users will be unable to utilize the printing services in labs during this outage period.
  • iServiceDesk application.

6. BGSU Distinguished Alumni discuss working for the public good

Episode 2 of the BG Ideas podcast features members of the 2022 Class of the Academy of Distinguished Alumni. Successful CEO Clarence Daniels Jr.; war crimes criminal prosecutor, Beth J. Hollis; and business psychologist, Dr. Anthony Rucci, discuss how they applied their BGSU education to forge unexpected career paths and give back to their communities.

BG Ideas is produced by the Institute for the Study of Culture and Society (ICS) and the School of Media and Communication at Bowling Green State University.

Each episode of BG Ideas features fascinating conversations about timely issues with influential subject matter experts and is researched, written, edited, and sound engineered in part by BGSU students.

7. Haircuts in the Maurer Atrium

Students Of Color In Business is excited to announce that our fundraising event Buzz-Cuts and Business is happening next Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.! If you would like to help support our organization or just want an amazing haircut, then schedule a Buzz-Cuts and Business appointment.

The event will have barbers from Beyond Blends Hair Studio cutting hair (no braiding) in the Maurer Atrium by appointment only. Normally to receive a haircut from one of the three skilled barbers you would need to pay upwards of $35. However, for this event only, they will be charging a discounted rate of $25. Cash and card will both be accepted!

Please arrive in the Atrium 10 minutes before your appointment on Feb. 15 so that we may check you in. Those who don't arrive in time for their appointment will lose their reservation.

Our very talented secretary, Shanell Calmese, will be promoting her own business, Knotless By Nell. Her company provides braiding services scheduled via appointment for women with textured hair on BGSU's campus and surrounding areas.

There are twenty-seven spots available and there will be a raffle for three free haircuts for all those who purchase a $1 ticket during the event.

8. Synchronized Skating competition and volunteering

The Bowling Green Skate Club is hosting the 2023 Synchronized Skating Tri-State Competition at the Slater Family Ice Arena on Feb. 19. Admission is open to the general public for $10. Teams ranging in ages from youth and adult to collegiate will be in attendance from around the country. This is a unique opportunity to watch team skating, known as Synchronized Skating, right here in Bowling Green.

9. Free well-being social with jewelry making and yoga/reiki class – One or both!

Yoga Flow, Reiki and Well-Being Socials

These social events will take place on Feb. 10 and April 14 at the Student Recreation Center in Studio B (basement level).

  • Yoga and Reiki Class: 6:15 to 7:00 p.m.
  • Well-Being Social: 7:00 to 7:45 p.m.
  • February social activity and conversation: Valentine's Day-themed jewelry-making and self-compassion conversations.
  • April social activity and conversation: Craft to be announced and managing end-of-semester stress and anxiety.

Join Group X instructors, Bryant and Maria, for this special class that includes a 15-minute upbeat vinyasa flow incorporating exercise and breathwork, followed by a 30-minute yin portion of the class with optional hands-on Reiki assistance. This is the perfect balance of yin and yang, allowing the body to become energized and then balancing that with calm breathing and slow stretching. Following the yoga/reiki class will be the well-being social. This includes tea, snacks, a craft activity and empowering conversations. You can come for the yoga/reiki class, well-being social – or both!

11. James Baldwin display at Jerome Library

The life of the famed American author is celebrated in a new exhibition curated on the 1st Floor of the Jerome Library. Baldwin's works helped to raise public awareness of racial and sexual oppression. Baldwin came to BGSU in 1978 as a writer-in-residence and returned in 1979 as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Department of Ethnic Studies. In 1980, Baldwin was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in the Humane Letters from BGSU President Hollis A. Moore.

1. Get Your Ozzi reusable container at Carillon Place Dining Center!

Did you know that BGSU offers reusable take-out containers for students at BGSU? Using Ozzi containers is a great way that you can participate in decreasing waste here at Bowling Green State University. Reusable Ozzie containers was funded by the Student Green Initiatives Fund. To get your own container, go to Carillon Place and redeem it. Use this container for a meal and then return the used container to the Ozzi Machine at Carillon and receive a token for your next meal's Ozzi. Using this token, redeem another clean O2GO container and enjoy your next meal!

2. Focus group - Downtown BG residents

Do you live in downtown Bowling Green? Would you like your voice heard?

The City of Bowling Green is one of three Northwest Ohio communities participating in the 2022 Cohort of the Reimagining Rural Regions (R3) Initiative. The R3 program is a community-led placemaking effort that seeks to engage the community to identify assets that residents can reimagine to improve the quality of life in their community.

On Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 5:30 p.m., the Center for Regional Development (CRD) is hosting a focus group to get your thoughts on downtown living. The R3 Team will hold the focus group at 400 E. Poe Rd., Bowling Green. The lot is eligible for commuter parking. The CRD will also provide single-use parking passes. Refreshments will be provided.

5. Interested in making lifelong friends while helping the community?

Omega Phi Alpha is a national service sorority. We are involved with the Multicultural Greek Council on campus. Our three cardinal principles are friendship, leadership and service. Our sorority completes over 20 hours of community service a semester. Joining OPhiA is a great way to build your resume, gain leadership skills and rules, and help your community. The Environmental Action Group is having a meeting tonight at 8 p.m. in Central Hall 100. This week, we will be discussing local environmental issues. We will then split up into small groups to work on waste reduction on campus, and restoring the Shatzel Native Prairie. The German Club invites all students for an info session on going abroad to Salzburg, Austria! Take the plunge and find out more about how you can make studying abroad in Europe a part of your undergraduate experience at BGSU and apply for scholarships!

All students, regardless of major or minor, are most welcome. No language requirement! Speak to students and faculty in history, political science, computer science, the arts or English, etc. to find out about their experience at the University of Salzburg.

To join the Mortar Board you must be a senior in credit hours in the fall semester of 2023 and you must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher.

3. Nominations needed! Student employee appreciation awards

Student employees are the lifeblood of Bowling Green State University. They are integral to nearly every facet of University operations throughout a student’s career at BGSU, from a student’s first recruiting interaction, through graduation and successful advancement into the community as a BGSU alum. Their hard work is seen everywhere across campus and is responsible for many of the day-to-day tasks involved in the vast majority of BGSU departments.

In conjunction with National Student Employment Week, April 10-14, BGSU Student Employment Services is taking the opportunity to formally recognize the contributions of BGSU students who work.

This Valentines Day, Feb. 14, at 5:30 p.m., give your special someone or even fantastic friend the gift of a beautiful steak dinner and a Teaching Kitchen experience. This class will teach you how to make your own molten lava cake while you also enjoy the perfect steak dinner. You will be sure to leave the Teaching Kitchen with a full stomach and a full heart. 6. Professional Development - Supervisor Skills Series

The Professional Development team within the Office of Human Resources is launching a new 5-part Supervisor Skills Series that includes in-person and live-virtual session options. We welcome all staff and faculty to participate in these sessions to learn the fundamental practices that lead to becoming an exemplary supervisor.

Each month, beginning in February, a different session will take participants on a journey from understanding the basics of supervision to more complex areas of the many roles and responsibilities of supervisors. The 5-part series includes the impactful development of new and existing employees, constructive performance management and effective communication skills with team members, all while focusing on departmental and organizational goals. Those attending all five sessions will receive a Supervisor Skills Series certificate of completion.

Session 1: Supervisor Skills 101 BASICS OF SUPERVISION: Join new supervisors or other colleagues who wish to have a refresher on the basics of effective supervision.
