1. Empower, educate, support: Campus Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adults ages 18 and over. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy, providing an action plan that teaches people to identify and address a potential mental health or substance use challenge safely and responsibly.

2. Extended deadline for presentation registration for Symposium on Diversity
The submission deadline for presentation registration has been EXTENDED to Friday, Dec. 15. You only need presenter(s) names, title of presentation and brief abstract to register your presentation! CURS can print your poster presentation for you.
Proposals for poster presentations by undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty and staff (classified and administrative), are now accepted for:
9th ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM ON DIVERSITY
Hosted by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Learning, presented by the Beyond the Dream Committee. This event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Jan. 17 in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom located in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
Undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines, as well as faculty and administrative staff, may submit proposals to give a poster presentation on any topic related to diversity, including but not limited to culture, ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, age, disability and socio-economic status. Both group and individual presentations will be accepted. For student presenters, submissions as part of classroom work, as well as individually faculty-mentored student projects, are welcome. Please share this announcement widely with students and colleagues.
Deadline for presentation proposals is 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15. However, further extension can be given if requested in advance by email to cmora@bgsu.edu.
Submit your Symposium on Diversity proposal. Only a presentation title and brief abstract are required for presentation registration and please submit only one registration per presentation. For any questions, please contact the director for CURS, Dr. Cordula Mora, at cmora@bgsu.edu.

3. Recognize excellence: Nominate a deserving administrative staff member today
The Administrative Staff Council recognizes, on a monthly basis, administrative staff members who are caught showing "The Spirit of BG" as defined by any of the core values of BGSU:
- Intellectual and personal growth
- Creativity, innovation and entrepreneurism
- Diversity and inclusion
- Collaboration with each other and our partners
- Excellence in all we do
If you are a member of the University community (faculty, staff, student) you may nominate an employee for "The Spirit of BG Award". Complete a nomination form, providing a short summary (up to 250 words) as to why you feel this person is deserving of the award.
Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. the last day of the month to be considered for the following month's recognition.
Nominate an Administrative Staff member for the Spirit of BG Award.

4. Teaching & Learning with AI Community of Practice to be offered this spring!
Have you been meaning to dig deeper into generative AI tools but have been overwhelmed by the pace of change or just haven’t had time? Join the Center for Faculty Excellence’s spring learning opportunity, Teaching & Learning with AI Community of Practice. Facilitated by Dr. Neil Baird, associate professor of English and the director of the University Writing Program, and Dr. Chelsea Chandler, CFE director, this Community will explore generative AI tools and prompt engineering, practical ways to use AI in your classroom, strategies for supporting students’ AI literacy, and guidelines for ethical and responsible AI use for teaching and learning.

5. We want to see your presentation at Black Issues Conference
Now that finals are just about over, you probably have the time to send in your presentation proposal for the Black Issues Conference!
The 24th Black Issues Conference (Thursday, Feb. 15) invites proposals for papers, presentations and creative works to be presented at this year's conference. This can take the form of a paper or PowerPoint presentation, discussion, performance or video. The theme for this years' Conference is: “Freestyle: Celebrating Black Determination, Innovation and Creativity.”
The deadline to submit proposals is 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20. You will be notified by Monday, Jan. 8, if your proposal was accepted. Undergraduate and graduate students are particularly encouraged to apply.

6. Campus Update - December and holiday schedule
Campus Update will appear on Wednesday only for the two weeks following commencement, Dec. 13 & 20. Campus Update will not be sent during the holiday break, Dec. 25 through Jan. 1, and will return to its usual schedule in the new year beginning Wednesday, Jan. 3.

7. Winter break parking announcement
During winter break, parking permits will still be required to park on campus in your assigned parking lot. Payment will still be required in all prepay parking lots. The only change will be that resident students with valid resident student parking permits may park their cars in any RED (Commuter) or BLUE (Resident Student) parking lot during winter break (Dec. 9 to Jan. 7).

3. Voluntary dental insurance
United HealthCare Student Resources offers a voluntary dental and vision plan to all BGSU students. To enroll, visit the United Healthcare Student Resources website and enter Bowling Green State University as your school. At the bottom of the following page, you will notice a link for ‘Voluntary Dental/Vision’. Enter your specific information and available plan options with pricing and benefits will appear.

1. Cowboy Christmas holiday party with PCSA tonight
Come celebrate the end of the semester with the Pop Culture Scholar's Association! We'll have a mix of food, drinks and desserts as well as crafts. There will also be a "holiday sweater" contest where the winner will receive a year's worth of pinto beans. Feel free to brings friends and family! 2. CFE workshop: BGP assessment process discussion
Are you teaching a Bowling Green Perspective (BGP) course? Do you have questions about the BGP assessment process? Join this virtual workshop, hosted by the Center for Faculty Excellence and the Office of Academic Assessment, to review the BGP learning outcomes assessment process and discuss best practices and lessons learned from the general education assessment process. Facilitated by Dr. Jessica Turos, the associate director of Academic Assessment, this workshop will walk you through all the steps to submit BGP assessment data via Canvas.
These workshops will be held via Zoom on the following dates and times during the spring semester:

3. CFE workshop: Intro to Canvas
If you're new to teaching with Canvas, join the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) for their Intro to Canvas workshop. In this virtual workshop, you will learn how to customize your course settings and navigation, upload course files and documents, create and add content and manage Gradebook and Speedgrader. 4. CFE workshop: Verba Registration Training
BGSU faculty and instructors are required to register textbooks, open textbooks and course materials via Verba, the University’s textbook reporting program, in order to comply with the Higher Education Opportunity Act. Join the Center for Faculty Excellence and University Libraries, for their interactive virtual workshop, Verba Registration Training, where you will learn how to register your required course items in Verba.
Facilitated by Gretchen Avery, Jerome Library textbook specialist, this training will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on March 11 and from 10 to 11 a.m. on March 12 via Zoom.

5. Curious about how to integrate service-learning into your classes?
Service-learning has the power to transform student learning and bridge the gap between college campuses and the community. If you are interested in learning more about how you can integrate service-learning into your courses or want to strengthen your existing service-learning courses, we encourage you to join the Service-Learning Community of Practice, co-hosted by the Center for Faculty Excellence and the C. Raymond Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement. Facilitated by Hoang Do, the assistant director of the Marvin Center, this Community of Practice will explore how you can integrate meaningful service-learning experiences into the curriculum, how to build sustainable community partnerships and how to incorporate critical reflection into the service-learning process.

6. Falcon Football fan celebration on Sunday
A public event to help celebrate the BGSU Football team prior to the 2023 Quick Lane Bowl is set for 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, at Schmidthorst Heritage Hall inside the Stroh Center.
The BGSU community and all fans will have a chance to meet the team and coaching staff, take pictures and get their complimentary bowl posters signed prior to the Men's Basketball game against Ohio Dominican at 2 p.m. Beckett's will cater the event with complimentary heavy appetizers and soft drinks for all attendees.
Fans do not need a basketball game ticket to attend the sendoff. Only Lot AA will be restricted to donor parking. All remaining parking in Stroh Center lots will be complimentary.

7. Join the Student Engagement & Motivation Learning Community!
Are you having trouble motivating students? Are you looking for new ways to engage students in the learning process? Join The Center for Faculty Excellence’s new semester-long learning community, Student Engagement and Motivation, led by Assistant Teaching Professor Jennifer Stuart. In this learning community you will discuss how to encourage a growth mindset in your students and how to ensure that students stay motivated throughout the course.
All BGSU faculty, adjunct instructors, graduate students and staff are welcomed and encouraged to participate in this Learning Community. Participants in this program who meet eligibility and participation requirements may receive $100 upon their successful completion of the program.

Facilitated by Dr. Weena-Isabelle Gaulin, the assistant director of Institutional Accreditation and Program Review, this workshop will outline the program review timeline and associated action steps, engage you in simulated program review activities and introduce you to available resources to support your department’s program review.

9. Learn how to create culturally responsible assessments!
The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) is excited to announce a new learning community for spring 2024, “Creating Culturally Responsible Assessments in the University Classroom Learning Community”. Facilitated by CFE Faculty Associate and Assistant Professor Dr. Audrey Conway Roberts, this learning community will explore how students from multicultural backgrounds experience assessment in the classroom and how to adapt assignments to be more responsible in order to enrich the classroom experience.
This Community is designed for new faculty and instructors; however, all faculty and instructors are welcomed and encouraged to participate in this Learning Community. Participants in this program who meet eligibility and participation requirements may receive $100 in professional development funds upon their successful completion of the program.
