1. Celebrate multiculturalism tonight!

Tonight, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. in the BTSU Ballroom, the Chinese Language and Culture Club, Vietnamese Student Association and Korean Culture Club are coming together to celebrate Lunar New Year with food, games, crafts, raffles and live performances.

Whether you call it 春节, Tết, 설날, or simply like to learn about other clubs, we'd love to share this tremendous celebration with you and your friends/family. Our event is open to everyone on and off campus with no language, cultural, or ethnic requirements to join us. Tonight is about having fun and getting a chance to experience other cultures, so we can't wait to see you there!

All ticket sales go towards future event funds for the hosting clubs and are only available until 8:30 p.m. tonight.

1. "The Gender Monologues"!

FORGE is presenting "The Gender Monologues" and is looking for participants! This production is about empowerment and gender expression! We would love it if people would consider auditioning and you can write your own monologue(s) or choose one that you resonate with; we want to know about your life experiences. Anyone can audition with various to no background experience with theater!

The Gender Monologues interest form is due this Thursday at 11:59 p.m.! Sign-up on the audition form. Auditions will take place on Feb. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. in ED 205. We would love to see you tell your story!

2. Pollution discussion with Diamond Spratling tonight

Environmental Action Group will have guest speaker Diamond Spratling. She is the founder and president of Girl + Environment. 5. BGSU Student Broomball

Join us at Slater Family Ice Arena after the Falcons take on the U.S. National Development Team on Friday, Jan. 27, for free Broomball for BGSU Students! Broomball will begin around 9:30 p.m., or shortly after the game ends. Head to the front desk area in the main lobby after the game to check in.

MEDLIFE is hosting its annual service-learning trip to Tena, Ecuador on May 20-28! On this week-long educational journey, volunteers work alongside the community in different development projects and medical clinics. The registration deadline is Feb. 6. Hope to see you there!

2. OAI small grant proposals due Feb. 1

The Optimal Aging Institute (OAI) is accepting applications for their small grants awards ($500 to $1,000). Grant funds through the OAI are designed for original scholarship, seed money or pilot data. Applicants may be full-time faculty or graduate-level students with support from a full-time faculty member. The upcoming deadline for submission is Feb. 1.

1. Diabetes Prevention Program for staff and faculty

One out of three American adults has prediabetes. People with prediabetes are five to 15 times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes.

The BGSU Nutrition Clinic will be starting a new Spring 2023 Diabetes Prevention Program cohort for BGSU staff and faculty. Apart from one or two activities held in-person, educational sessions will be held via secure Zoom. Seats will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis for this new staff and faculty cohort.

PreventT2 groups meet virtually for one year — three to four times a month for the first six months, then once or twice a month for the second six months to maintain healthy lifestyle changes (a total of 22 sessions).

2. Global Village director position search open

The College of Arts and Sciences is searching for a student-centered director to lead the Global Village Learning Community as it becomes a catalyst for the globalization of the campus at large. Global Village is a residence-based Learning Community that gives International and American students the opportunity to explore the cultures of their different countries and life experiences by living and learning together. Global Village is a vibrant part of the Learning Community Network composed of multiple residential academic and themed communities.

The search for a new director is internal and open to all full-time faculty on continuing appointments at BGSU. Preference will be given to tenured and teaching (QRF) professors at the associate rank and above.

4. Canvas "New Quizzes" workshop

“New Quizzes” is an updated assessment engine that integrates with Canvas and replaces the Classic Quizzes functionality. New Quizzes is currently enabled for instructors to begin using this quiz engine when building quizzes and exams. In this session, we will explore new question types such as Categorization, Ordering and Hot Spots, as well as discuss how to manage item banks. Instructors will have an opportunity to create questions in an item bank in their own Canvas course and add the item bank to a quiz. We will review how to migrate Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes and how to migrate Classic Quiz question banks to a New Quiz item bank for instructors looking to transfer Classic Quizzes over to the new quiz engine.

New Quizzes workshop learning outcomes:

  • Discuss how to create a New Quiz and New Quiz settings
  • Explore New Question Types
  • Create Questions in a New Quiz using Item Banks from your own Canvas Course
  • Review how to migrate a Classic Quiz to a New Quiz
