3. Speech perception study

You are invited to participate in a study of speech perception. Perceptual ratings of speech characteristics will be collected to help us determine how listeners judge the speech of individuals with and without speech disorders. The purpose of this study is to better understand the effects of various speech disorders on listeners’ perceptions and to determine which aspects of speech production are most affected in individuals with speech disorders.

Participation is voluntary; however, participants will be compensated for their time with a $15 Amazon gift card. This study will be conducted by Justine Heider (heidjus@bgsu.edu) and supervised by Jason Whitfield, Ph. D., CCC-SLP (jawhitf@bgsu.edu) in CDIS at BGSU.

The study will include one session that will last no longer than one hour. The study will take place in room 186 in the Health and Human Services building. During the study, you will be asked to complete a series of demographic questionnaires, complete a free hearing screening, and listen to and provide ratings of speech samples.

If you are interested in hearing more about this study, please respond to the email address motorspeechlab@bgsu.edu with your contact information.

Cookies and Consent is part of Green Dot Week, the campus-wide initiative to reduce power-based personal violence and address other social issues that impede progress toward safe and equitable communities. We believe all individuals are capable of positive action and collectively mobilizing a force powerful enough to create lasting societal change. Through Green Dot Week and the Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training offered through the CVPE, we aim to accelerate individual impact by inspiring hope for change, providing realistic tools to act, and helping overcome personal, relational and cultural barriers.

9. Understanding Dobbs discussion series

Understanding Dobbs discussion series, presented by Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies & The Center for Women and Gender Equity.

Now that states are free to make their own laws about abortion, we are left with a patchwork of conflicting and confusing policies. Learn more about the evolving relationships between federal and state legislatures, and how some policymakers are attempting to address the Dobbs decision with new amendments, acts and laws. Dr. Nicole Kalaf-Hughes is a Political Science professor at BGSU.

Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization (2022) is a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court that has overturned Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992). The Dobbs decision states that the Constitution of the United States does not confer a right to abortion. Much is unknown in the wake of this landmark decision. The Understanding Dobbs discussion series explores many of the issues the Dobbs decision has uncovered, deepening our collective knowledge and fostering civil dialogue.

This is a brown-bag series and participants are encouraged to bring their own lunches.

Federal and State Legislative Branches: Amendments, Acts, and Laws with Dr. Nicole Kalef-Hughes
