6. Global Migrations in Film - new course for spring!
Migration is both an urgent contemporary issue and an inherently complex phenomenon that must be approached from multiple disciplinary angles.
This spring, look at film representations of migration from a variety of post-1970 periods and regions, especially migrations to the U.S. and Europe. By combining humanities (which often emphasize individual experiences and empathy) and social science (which analyze underlying causes of & possible solutions to) approaches, this course will equip you with a fuller understanding of and response to the issues of migration. Films to be considered will range from 1980s classics such as "El Norte" to more recent offerings like Ai Weiwei's 2017 "Human Flow" and 2019 "Joy" by Sudabeh Mortezai.
The course is offered both as WRLD 3150--1002 (#17425) and INST 3800-1002 (#14200) and meets TuTh, 1:00 to 2:15 p.m.

7. Spanish for Educators - offered this spring!
SPAN 2030-1001 (#16806), will meet TuTh from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m.
“Spanish for Educators” aims to help BGSU teacher candidates better serve the growing population of Latinx students. From 2011-2021, there was a 76% increase in the Hispanic student population in Ohio (ODE Facts and Figures 2022). This class will familiarize teachers with U.S. varieties of Spanish, equipping them with the phrases necessary for basic classroom conversation, acquainting them with the concept of translanguaging, and helping them understand ways to incorporate this practice into their classes. The class will also train students on how to effectively use Google Translate to communicate with parents (and avoid insulting them). We will also examine Latinx family cultural practices to better understand different cultural approaches to education.
The class is designed for all future teachers – pre-K, elementary, middle and secondary levels.
Questions? Email professor Ducar at cmducar@bgsu.edu.

8. Explore fascism then and now
This spring, examine the history of fascism as a political theory and movement in the aftermath of World War 1 in Italy & Nazi Germany. Multiple classes combined - select any course: WRLD 4150-1001 (#17354), POLS 4000-1001 (#15824), HIST 5820-5004 (#17155), or GERM 5800-5001 (#14585).
The class meets Tuesdays, from 6 to 9 p.m.

1. Refer a student for a one-on-one visit with a therapy dog
The Wellness Connection is offering the opportunity to visit privately with a therapy dog and handler.
We have select dates and times available by referral for graduate or undergrad students to enjoy some R & R while petting a therapy dog. Studies show that there are numerous physical and mental health benefits to spending quality time with a therapy animal. Students who are having trouble adjusting to being away from home, or struggling with campus life in general, could benefit from this opportunity.
For more information and the referral link, contact Suzanne Swoap at brownsm@bgsu.edu or Ashley Hartman at ashthom@bgsu.edu.
