The idea of joining a fraternity is something that can be very confusing for someone who has no previous experience with Fraternity and Sorority life. Nearly every list of college recommendation will tell you that early student involvement on campus can be critical to your success. Perhaps the most important aspect of joining a fraternity like Delta Lambda Phi is the academic support and guidance that our Brotherhood can provide.

Joining a fraternity provides a strong social support system and allows opportunities to volunteer and give back to the community; future employers and post-graduate professionals look highly upon such leadership experiences. Delta Lambda Phi also provides a large professional network that provides endless opportunities to do so.

7. Join our Book Club on Feminist Fiction, facilitated by CWGE!

Join our Book Club on Feminism facilitated by the Center for Women and Gender Equity (CWGE)! This book club will explore feminist fiction through an intersectional lens. Together we will read fictional works that center around issues of gender, culture, and self-definition. We hope to provide a space to discuss how feminism intersects with sexuality, gender, nationality, race, economic stratification, and more within our fictional texts and our world. Space in the book club is limited, and the first 10 people to register will receive a free copy of our book "Girl, Woman, Other provided by CWGE." The book club will run for seven weeks, starting at the end of September (ideally the week of 9/27) and running through mid-November (week of 11/8).

Our first book will be "Girl, Woman, Other" by Bernadine Evaristo, the winner of the 2019 Booker Prize and the 2020 British Book Award winner for Fiction Book of the Year and Author of the Year. Over the course of seven weeks, we’ll delve into Evaristo’s novel which portrays the intertwined stories of twelve characters and explores how they navigate gender, sexuality, feminism, relationships, race, and more while living in the UK. Evaristo’s unique writing style and wit captures the distinctive voices and experiences of her characters, making them relatable and real. As she considers ways that women and people of color experience being “othered” in the world, she also shows how we are often guilty of "othering" each other, no matter how good our intentions may be. You can learn more about "Girl, Woman, Other" at Evaristo’s website.

If you are interested in joining our book club, please fill out this form by Friday, Sept. 18 or reach out to Loni Stouffer with questions at istouff@bgsu.edu.

If you or any member of your organization are interested in volunteering, visit the volunteer form.
