1. Back-2-School with the Alphas

Hey everyone! Do you have a son, daughter, nephew, little sibling, or know a child that attends middle school and could use some free school supplies and/or a free haircut? Do you have extra school supplies lying around and want to donate to a great cause? Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. has partnered with local barbershop owner Damare Johnson and are hosting a School Supply Drive and providing free haircuts to any middle school students! So come on down to Beyond Blends Hair Studio on from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 113 Railroad St, Bowling Green, and start the year off right with your little ones! Please help us give back to the youth by donating school supplies and even more importantly, bring the kids out!

3. Free Taekwondo Classes

The Korean Club is offering free Taekwondo classes for all faculty, staff and students. Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Eppler Center Gym (South Partition). Beginner to advanced are welcome! Dress for full range of motion. Visit our website for more information.

4. Green Roof Open Hours!

Stop by The Oaks Green Roof and enjoy our rooftop garden during the following hours! You can access the green roof by going through the BGSU Dining Administration doors (double doors next to Einstein Bagels) and going to the 2nd floor. Sustainability interns will be available for tours, questions and more. Come enjoy this beautiful space this fall!

5. Support Mental Health Awareness with NAMI Wood County

For more than 30 years, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County has continued to promote education, awareness, and advocacy throughout the community.

On the evening of Friday, Oct. 1, at the Wood Co. Fairgrounds, they are hosting the annual AfterBurn event. The event features community resources, 5K and 1-mile run/walk, and a “Lights in Memory” ceremony in honor of those that have lost their life related to mental health conditions.

6. FREE Yoga Under the Stars – Wednesday

Join Falcon Fitness and the Student Wellness Network (SWN) for a relaxing and fun outdoor yoga class taught by certified Yoga instructor, Bryant.

Wednesday from 9 – 9:45 p.m.
Location: Front lawn of the Student Recreation Center (rain location: Studio B)
Cost: Free for all! No registration required.
Please bring your own mat, towel or blanket or arrive early and receive a FREE yoga mat from SWN (while supplies last).

7. Know a student in crisis? Here's how to help

Help create a Community of Care at BGSU and make sure no Falcon struggles unnoticed and alone! Start the Conversation is a collaborative training offered from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 13 by the Counseling Center and the Humanities Troupe from the Department of Theatre and Film. In the training, you will learn how to contribute to a community of care, how to identify the warning signs of people who may be struggling, and how to help (including suicide prevention strategies). Simple expressions of care are powerful, and you can make a difference in someone's life!

Stop by the Welcome to Wellness event to ride the blender bike and make a free smoothie, climb the outdoor rock climbing wall, get a free chair massage, pet some therapy dogs, play corn hole and learn more about wellness at BGSU!

3. Register to be a Peer Educator

Register for the Peer Education Fall 2021 Training now! Become involved in the BGSU community while contributing to the safety and well-being of campus. You’ll present on various wellness topics to classes, organizations, and other groups on-campus. Peer educators gain communication, leadership, public speaking, and other valuable skills.

4. Want to raise money for your student organization?

Falcon Funded is BGSU’s version of GoFundMe that helps student organizations raise money for educational programing, trips, equipment and more. Submit an application by Oct. 3 to be considered for a Falcon Funded project to raise money from Nov. 17 through Dec. 1. Your student organization gets to spend 100% of the money you raise!

5. Audition for AcousChicks A Cappella!

AcousChicks A Cappella is looking for new members! AcousChicks is a soprano alto (SSAA) voice part a cappella group. We are open to all majors and are looking for all voice parts and vocal percussionists.

We are holding open auditions from 7 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 14 in Room 315 of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. We are asking that you prepare a verse and a chorus of any pop song.

6. Looking for a fun and healthy way to get involved on-campus?

Are you looking for a way to get involved while also contributing to student wellness on campus? The Bowling Green State University Student Wellness Network is a prevention, education, and advocacy group that promotes holistic wellness through interactive presentations, community events, service, and role modeling. Student Wellness Network members plan fun, educational events on topics such as alcohol and other drug awareness, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, sexual health and body image while simultaneously making strong connections with each other and other campus offices.

8. Participants Needed: COVID-19 Study

BGSU undergraduate students (age 18+) are being recruited for a study to identify, categorize, and understand the opinions of college students regarding their stresses, coping, and needs for academic/social support during the late stages of the COVID-19 crisis and beyond (BGSU IRB 1740736). Students who complete the Q-grid (Excel file) and questionnaire will receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card. The grid and questionnaire will take about 30 minutes to complete.

2. Creating Engaging Micro-Learning Video Workshop

This workshop, at 11 a.m. Sept. 14, is for instructors who would like to create short educational videos in their courses. Oftentimes, instructors may find that participation is low in synchronous lectures and are looking to find more efficient ways to engage students in their subject matter. In this workshop instructors will be able to define what microlearning videos are and the benefits of producing this type of video, discuss the steps and best practices involved in creating microlearning videos and be able to determine what platform is best to host videos while keeping in mind best practices for accessibility.

3. New Faculty Fridays - Jerome Library Info Session, Sept. 10

New Faculty Fridays is a semester-long orientation process designed for full-time faculty and instructors who have been at BGSU for less than 12 months. New Faculty Fridays are opportunities to connect with other faculty members. During these meetings faculty members will learn about institutional resources, programs, and processes to support their success and the success of their students.
