1. IT Service Portal outage scheduled June 19

An upgrade is scheduled for the IT Service Portal located at www.bgsu.edu/its/services between 12-4 a.m. on Saturday, Jun. 19, 2021. During this time, the electronic Service Catalog, Knowledge Base and online forms may be unavailable.

2. RallyCap Sports BGSU volunteer opportunity at Courageous Acres!

We have an exciting opportunity for volunteers interested in working with youth in sports! RallyCap Sports BGSU has partnered with Courageous Acres (formerly Camp Courageous) and will be hosting a sports program for their campers on June 11, June 18, and June 25 from 10-11 am. Volunteers will be leading the campers through different sports stations, very similar to a typical RallyCap Sports session. Please email lily@rallycapsports.org if you are able commit to all sessions or two of the three sessions. Be sure to include which dates you are available in your email. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

3. Learn to Make BBQ Tempeh Bowls next Thursday!

The Teaching Kitchen is back, and we're ready to show you how to make some amazing food! Next Thursday, join us as we learn to make marinated and grilled BBQ tempeh grain bowls, fresh grilled vegetables, and homemade dressing. Paige Wagner, our Camus Dietitian, will teach you all about incorporating protein into your summer diet. This event will be $15, and you can register here. We can't wait to see you soon!

4. Memorial service for Dr. Neil Englehart, 1964-2020

With Covid restrictions lifted, a memorial service to celebrate the life of Dr. Neil Englehart will be held on Saturday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg. A luncheon will follow in Zoar’s Family Life Center.

Dr. Englehart served as Professor and Chair of BGSU’s Political Science Department until 2020. An international expert on human rights, state failure, non-state armed groups and Southeast Asia, he authored several books and numerous scholarly articles. Dr. Englehart traveled to 14 countries to conduct research, bringing his experiences home and into BGSU’s classrooms. The Dr. Neil Andrew Englehart Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship honors his commitment to exposing BGSU students to global issues and cultures.

Zoar Lutheran Church is located at 314 East Indiana Avenue in Perrysburg. Those unable to attend can view the service live on Zoar’s Facebook page, where it will also be available for later viewing.

5. Know a student in crisis? Here's how to help!

Help create a Community of Care at BGSU and make sure no Falcon struggles unnoticed and alone! Start the Conversation is a collaborative training offered by the Counseling Center and the Humanities Troupe from the Department of Theatre and Film. In the training, you will learn how to contribute to a community of care, how to identify the warning signs of people who may be struggling, and how to help (including suicide prevention strategies). Simple expressions of care are powerful, and you can make a difference in someone's life!

The next training is Wednesday, June 16, 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Zoom. Register here, and learn more about how you can help create a community of care at BGSU!

1. Update: Fall 2021 Canvas Webex Decommission

ITS will decommission the Canvas Webex integration at the end of the Fall 2021 Semester. In response to faculty input, the Canvas Zoom integration was implemented during the Fall 2020 Semester as a replacement for Webex. Faculty who have not yet made the transition to Zoom should prepare to do so in the coming months, which includes the export of videos currently stored in Webex. Export instructions and additional information is available at www.bgsu.edu/webex.

2. Intro to Canvas Studio Workshop

The Center for Faculty Excellence is offering an Intro to Canvas Studio workshop. Canvas Studio is a screen capture tool that makes it easy for faculty to create engaging videos right within Canvas. The Studio interface allows students and instructors to engage with media by implementing in-video commenting. Low-stakes quizzes can be added right within the video for low stakes student assessment. This workshop will demonstrate the features of Canvas Studio from producing and editing screen capture videos to utilizing student analytics.

3. Assessing Course Design and Delivery

The design elements of an online or remote course can influence both the teaching and learning that occur within the course. In this workshop, participants will reflect on their online and remote course design and delivery, review standards for high quality course design (Quality Matters and BGSU Rubrics), and share best practices for (re)designing an effective, engaging, and well-structured online course.

4. Scholarship of Teaching & Learning Academy Conference

BGSU is hosting the 11th Annual SoTL Academy Conference, online, on July 26-27, 2021. This two-day conference will promote dialogue on teaching and learning under pandemic conditions and going forward.

WE WELCOME PROPOSALS by Friday, June 18, along one or more of five thematic tracks:

• Teaching Practice
• Student Learning
• Culturally Relevant / Inclusive Pedagogy
• Teaching with Technology
• Faculty Development

We especially welcome proposals that reflect on the experience of teaching and learning under COVID conditions in 2020-21, or discuss the pandemic’s legacy for college preparation and higher education in the near future. Proposals may include live panel and workshop presentations, and digital poster sessions hosted on ScholarWorks.
