3. Research Seminar Today!

Join the Center for Women and Gender Equity on March 29th from 12-1 pm for a research seminar titled Personal and Collective Healing for Women of Color Using the Martial Arts: Preliminary Results of a Qualitative Dissertation

Trauma and cultural psychology have been critiqued for their failure to account for factors of relationship and place in trauma research, which may reinforce legacies of colonization and negatively affect mental health. Feminist conceptual frameworks and decolonizing research methods have been suggested as tools that can transform the discipline of psychological research and practice offering new possibilities for thinking through research and practices of trauma recovery. This presentation will outline preliminary findings as the researcher, Jacqueline Barco, doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Utah and martial arts practitioner for over 15 years, addresses these gaps in psychological trauma using feminist and decolonizing frameworks and individual narratives as data to explore the impact of colonization on women of color and how women of color make meaning of their own healing and recovery from trauma through participation in martial arts. The presentation will include a discussion of how the use of feminist and women of color research methodologies can be transformative in challenging the discipline to think and listen differently.

5. Media Career Week!

Join us for this year's 10th annual Media Career Week!

In past years, we’ve planned an in-person event where current BGSU students would attend sessions from past alumni, potential employers, and an assortment of professionals from the media industry. This experience allowed for students to gain more “real-world” experience from industry professionals and provide them with an opportunity to expand their network. With COVID-19 guidelines preventing many student organizations from hosting in-person events, we found a way to still host this special event while remaining safe and abiding by university regulations.

This year’s Media Career Week will consist of a series of Zoom calls beginning on Monday, March 29th and continuing until Friday, April 2nd to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We will be featuring a wide variety of professionals from different areas of the media industry who will speak to BGSU students about their career-related experience, tips for securing a job out of college, lessons learned in their post-grad life, and a variety of other questions that may arise during the call.

For program, Zoom session links, virtual backgrounds, internship listings, click here.

Here's what you can expect during Media Career Week:

6 employer panels that will offer more than 70 internships and entry level position openings.

Of these, 2 will include the Industry Association Internship Program panel and the Advertising Industry Advisory Board panel.

6 alumni and professionals panels featuring individuals in vast areas of the media industry, including media production, media studies, advertising, social media, marketing, public relations, non-profit work, and educational sectors around the country.

Hear about experiences from panelists from New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Columbus, Cleveland, and many more!

Giveaways! There will be 10 limited edition Media Career Week t-shirts that you will have the chance to win by participating in the event!

See the attached program for details and plan your schedule accordingly.

More information regarding the t-shirt giveaways and Media Career Week itself can be found on the Media Student Association's social media:

Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

We look forward to seeing you on Zoom!

12. Expand your world - Learn a second language!

Become a global citizen & expand your world by learning a new language. Start this Summer or Fall! Did you know that speaking a second language can translate into thousands of dollars of extra money in your pocket, regardless of your career choice? (Forbes.com) If you are starting with a new language, you may register for the 1010 level without the placement test...and beginning level classes in CHINESE, FRENCH, GREEK, GERMAN, ITALIAN, JAPANESE, LATIN, RUSSIAN & SPANISH are all offered for Fall semester! (...and beginning ITAL is offered 100% online this Summer.)

If you have a high school background in a world language, don't delay! Language skills get rusty if you don't use them. Take the online Language Placement Test for Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish to see which level you need to get started.

If you already have some college credit for a language, you don't need to take the placement test to continue to the next level. Questions? Contact your advisor or visit www.bgsu.edu/world.
