1. Today! Register! The Mirnavator

There are many words & phrases in reference to one of the most important parts of our existence as human beings—the body. Bodies - we use them & we envision them to somehow be different in the future. Have you ever paused to wonder why it is we think about our bodies in a certain way or what we prioritize certain aspects of our bodies over others? This interactive workshop will look deeply into how & why we perceive our bodies in a certain way, opening up the conversation on how we could learn to love & appreciate them even more. You will dig deeper into the body-image messaging of your past & work individually to reset your body narrative to reflect the power you have now & have within. This is especially important as we find ourselves dealing with the emotional, mental, & physical stress & trauma of the current global crisis.

Open to all members of the BGSU community. Event: Wednesday, February 10th at 7 p.m. Register at bgsu.edu/TheMirnavator

Presented by:

1) Maureen Barry; Assistant Professor, Reference and Instruction Reference Librarian

2) Colleen Boff, Head Librarian of Curriculum Resources

3) Paul Valdez, Associate Director, BGSU Center for Public Impact

“Information literacy (IL) is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning.” (Association of College and Research Libraries, 2015). IL concepts and skills apply to academic assignments, but how are we helping our students transfer those skills to everyday information gathering, particularly in the context of community engagement and preparing active, informed citizens in a democracy? In this two-part workshop, faculty will integrate information literacy knowledge practices and dispositions into a new or existing course unit, assignment, learning activity, or program. The first workshop will involve learning more about different information literacy techniques and resources. The second workshop will bring participants back together to share how they applied information literacy techniques and resources in courses, programs, or other areas.
