2. Learn how to help a Falcon in crisis!

Help create a Community of Care at BGSU and make sure no Falcon struggles unnoticed and alone! Start the Conversation is a collaborative training offered by the Counseling Center and the Humanities Troupe from the Department of Theatre and Film.

In the training, you will learn how to contribute to a community of care, how to identify the warning signs of people who may be struggling, and how to help (including suicide prevention strategies). Simple expressions of care are powerful, and you can make a difference in someone's life!

4. BGSU Science Café - Interactive Storytelling: Combining Data and Narrative to Elicit Systemic Change

On Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m., Assistant Professor of Graphic Design Andrea Cardinal will discuss Interactive Storytelling, which is a form of visual communication that combines various media and user interaction to deliver a comprehensive engagement of both qualitative and quantitative data. Attendees will be able to assess if their own research would be served by IS to drive policy or cultural change. If you are interested in attending this informative discussion, followed by an interactive Q&A panel, please register!

5. Call for presentations - Black Issues Conference

The 22nd Annual Black Issues Conference takes place on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022. This year's theme is "Why We Can't Wait".

The organizers of the conference invite proposals for papers, presentations and creative works across a broad array of Black issues, especially related to privilege, oppression, power and expression. Other areas might include: Arts Activism, Inter-community Solidarity, Resistance, Empowerment, etc. The presentations can take the form of a paper, PowerPoint, a virtual discussion, a video, research studies and creative works (e.g., painting, ceramics, photography, movement, spoken word, etc.) Presentations may be done by individuals or small groups.

Undergraduate and graduate students are particularly encouraged to apply.

Sessions are 45 minutes long. Please plan to present for 30 minutes and allow 15 minutes for questions and answers at the end.

The deadline to submit is Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 11:59 p.m. No extensions will be granted. You will be notified about the status of your proposal by Friday, Dec. 17, at 5 p.m.

6. FREE menstrual kits

Stop by The Wellness Connection, 214 Student Recreation Center on the main floor, during the first week of November anytime from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up a FREE menstrual kit that contains an assortment of tampons, pads and panty liners!

7. Identity management system upgrade Nov. 11-12

Beginning Thursday, November 11, and through Friday, November 12, Information Technology Services (ITS) will transition BGSU accounts and applications to a new identity management solution. Once the transition is complete, the single sign-on (SSO) log in page and associated URLs will look slightly different. You may also be prompted to create a security question.

If you experience issues logging in after this change you may need to reset your password via self-service by following these instructions:

  1. Navigate to MyBGSU.
  2. On the log in page select Forgot Password.
  3. Enter your email address.
  4. Select Reset via Email.
  5. Follow the prompts to change your password.

*If you are unable to access your BGSU email to reset your password, please contact ITS for assistance.

8. Jacob Brandman, D.C., has joined the chiropractic team at Falcon Health Center

Jacob Brandman, D.C. has joined the Falcon Health Center Primary Care Center with Mickey Frame, D.C. The two provide chiropractic care to the BGSU and surrounding Bowling Green communities and are accepting new patients.

Jacob graduated from Palmer School of Chiropractic and previously worked as a chiropractic rehabilitation assistant in Davenport, Iowa. He is originally from Bedford, Michigan, and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toledo.

Jacob's clinical interests include musculoskeletal/sports-related injuries, soft tissue therapies, spine and extremity adjustments, and exercises and stretches to improve overall function and range of motion. He also enjoys focusing on lifestyle modifications, goals, strategies for recovery, and overall personal health empowerment with his patients.

The chiropractic team at the Falcon Health Center provides acupuncture, care for musculoskeletal/sports-related injuries, soft tissue therapies, spine and extremity adjustments and exercises, and stretches to improve overall function and range of motion and many other treatments. 15. When Stars are Scattered Book Discussion - A refugee experience

The Northwest Ohio Immigrant Rights Network and a team of co-sponsoring community organizations will be hosting a Zoom book discussion of When Stars are Scattered, on Tuesday Nov. 16, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The book, a National Book Award finalist, is the moving story of Omar Mohamed and his brother Hassan's experience in a Somali refugee camp in Kenya. Written as a graphic novel, it has wide appeal for people of all ages. The purpose of this event is to better understand the refugee experience, consider ways immigrants and refugees make our communities stronger, and explore our role in this process.

Omar Mohamed will be joining us on the Zoom, so there will be opportunities to hear from him and to ask him questions. Everyone is welcome, whether they have read the book or not!

3. Celebrate El Día de los Muertos today with the Office of Multicultural Affairs!

El Día de los Muertos, also known as The Day of the Dead, is a holiday celebrated on the 1st and 2nd of November. It originated and is mostly observed in Mexico but also in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs will be providing educational materials and hosting an optional ofrenda. An ofrenda is a home altar with a collection of objects placed on a ritual display during El Día de los Muertos. It is usually created for an individual person who has died and is intended to welcome them to the altar setting.

The event takes place Monday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in BTSU Room 427. We hope to see you there!

Registration is open for spring 2022 intramural sports. Get a head start on signing up your teams! Get involved as an individual, with your friends or student organization by playing.

1. The Graduate College and Multicultural Initiatives for Graduate Student Success (MIGSS) will be facilitating Writing, Procrastination, and Resistance: How to Identify Your Writing Blocks and Move Through Them, a workshop.

The workshop will be presented virtually from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The workshop is intended for graduate students and interested faculty. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Topics: What resistance is and why academic writers experience it in pursuit of work they want and need to complete, how to identify what's holding them back from writing and completing their (article, dissertation, book manuscript, grant proposal, etc.), the three most common types of writing blocks and how to move around them, and how to create the types of community, support, and accountability needed for writing and publishing success.

Presenter: Lisa Hanasono, PhD, is an associate professor of communication studies at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). Her research focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Prior to becoming an NCFDD Campus Workshop Facilitator and Faculty Success Program Coach, she dedicated over 10 years to developing and delivering professional development workshops in higher education.

18th Annual Faculty Colloquium

Cuyahoga Community College’s annual Faculty Colloquium provides an opportunity for faculty to engage in a day of professional development through dialogue and sharing of research, scholarly pursuits and effective teaching strategies. Due to the virtual environment this year, we are pleased to announce the event will be open to faculty from Ohio's two- and four-year institutions!

This year’s theme is Critical Thinking: It's Good for You, It's Good for Me and will provide an opportunity for faculty to engage with one another and demonstrate or share how they incorporate critical thinking within their classes or how critical thinking transcends the classroom environment. As faculty, we continue to find ways to cultivate our students’ critical thinking skills. Through presentations and collective experiences, this year’s Faculty Colloquium will explore ways to create a body of learners who will critically explore society and will work to enhance our communities.

5. Safe Zone training

The Safe Zone workshop promotes awareness of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer +) people. The workshop provides education concerning LGBTQ+ issues and seeks to improve the environment for LGBTQ+ people. This workshop helps to build a support network of allies for the BGSU LGBTQ+ community.
